A total of 18 university students were arrested by police as they protested against the Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and the rector of Istanbul Technical University, or İTU, at an opening ceremony for the new academic year on the university´s campus in Istanbul.
A group of students shouted slogans against Erdoğan and the rector of İTU with both present at the opening ceremony. The police responded and some of the students dispersed while some continued their protest. The 18 students arrested were said to be members of Turkish Communist Party, or TKP.

Shouting protests seems quite harmless to me. Isn’t that allowed? Can’t anyone say they don’t like the Prime Minister and a university rector out loud?

Tamiki, I think you should stick to expressing your own opinions, not opinions of other people!

I was not responding to this post for a few reasons and one of them was:
´naah, tkp supporters would protest for usual demands such as freedom, more rights etc but they would NEVER EVER protest in favour of erkenekon which happened to hunt tkp supporters as if they were wild animals in the past´.
So my initial assumption was the person who posted this was mixing apples and oranges (where is tkp, where is one of the most fascist and blood thirsty organization like ergenekon?)
But, when I checked where tkp stands in recent days, OMG!!
They are lining themselves with IP (Labour Party- Maoist then nationalist) and CHP.
Well, what can I say? just a huge OHA from me!!.
Tkp has always been an opportunist, but god´s sake, they have never ever supported racist, nationalist, fascist ´deep state´. It is a huge surprise for me I must say..
I think there are two ideas here and they represent completely different political views:
-You are against AKP, because you are in love racism, nationalism and the deep state.
-You are against AKP because you find them anti democratic, sheria supporter or back wards or not democratic enough.
The first one unfortunately does not put even a single grain of sand into the concrete of democracy in Turkey.

So it is an irrelevant question!

As i am living in Maslak Campus of ITU, i know what TKP does there, just complaining but not offering any solutions... thats all they do, look at their member please, all they wear converse and levis... all american brands, not even one local producer... so they conflict inside them at first... I am not against to wear what they want but it is ridicilious...

I am really impressed about your knowledge regarding TKP Sui.
Since I did not know anything about tkp supporters wearing converse or levis in Maslak, of course my perspective was immensely limited about the issue.
Thank you!!

I respect your sarcasm but that is the TKP shown not only in Maslak but also in where i see, let me tell you what they do in ITU, take a chair and a table, and collecting signatures just to protest and complain, but there is no solution...
Also what is the source of the money that comes to TKP, the newspapers they sell in Taksim?? Russia??
