I´m as old as the hills/Ottomans as I remember those avatar days But I also remember several users had the same avatars as there was a limited choice of them in the gallery.

I agree..and using our own is even better.  As long as it´s not offensive that is.  Many sites..have where you could load your own pic...   I think this is a very constructive idea...
