Is there any particular reason for the change?

Do you know of any transition period? I always keep around 200ytl with me, for the next time I go there, so that I will immediately have some cash at hand in case something happens. I suppose there will be a transition period where you can use both or something right? Im not sure when Im going next, hopefully before new year but nothings sure yet

The banknotes look fine, I recall it was only Atatürk and some places in TR represented on it. Seems they have put other significant persons as well?

That´s a good question-when will the old notes cease to be legal tender? I think the old old ones(when they were in millions) were ok for about a year-is that right?

200 lira notes! {#lang_emotions_sad}  Round here they pull their faces in the shops if you give them a 50!  How are they ever going to have change for 200 ( and this is the supermarkets I´m talking about - not just the small shops!).

Ever been to Istanbul? Try Baðdat Caddesi, show them 200 and they´ll ask you for more

I never had trouble with 50 though in supermarkets in izmir. Neither in small shops, but now that I come to think of it, that might be because of the ´goods´ I used to get there.

I get your point though.

If you have ever had to buy something really big, and they insist on cash, you would be pleased to have 200 TL note.  It makes the carrier bag of money half the size !!!!

I had to put 5000 pound deposit (in TL) on a house in cash, and I ran from my bank to my car, and then from my car to the sellers office as I was terrified of losing this great big bag of money.

We missed paying the National Insurance payment for our staff last December, as the bank had a problem with their system on the 31st.  Silly me I had left it to the last day.  If you make a late pament (i.e. a payment the next month) you cant do it by bank transfer.  You have to go to the National Insurance office with cash.  So I sent two members of staff with 3500 YTL. They linked arms and held the carrier bag tight between them.
