çalýþmak and denemek

I´ll try to work: çalýþmaya çalýþacaðým

I´ll try my best: en iyiyim deniyorum

Is there a rule that says when to use çalýþmak, when to use denemek ?

Well, your second translation is not correct as it means elimden gelenin en iyisini yapmaya çalýþacaðým.. But the idea is when you have two verbs like:

try to finish    bitirmeye çaliþacaðým

try to come    gelmeye çalýþacaðým

try something salty  tuzlu bir þey deneyeceðim

try another route     baþka bir yol deneyeceðim/

So denemek means something like ´try out´, f.i. in  trying out a demo version of an application,

or trying out a new car or something.

Well, it means exactly the same in English..  You also can try a person.. for example, you give a secret to someone to see if he will go and tell everyone..

Suzan,

I guess çalýþmak is used combination with a verb

i try to walk              yürümeye çalýþýyorum

i try not to think       düþünmemeye çalýþýyorum

denemek is used in combination with a thing

i try something else    baþka bir þeyi deneyeceðim

Kendine iyi bak,

Cor

denemek is more to try "new tastes" new things which you haven´t experienced.

çalýþmak is more to try hard, focus on something to finish at all which needs a big effort.

Think of çalýþmak as to work.

- Çalýþmayý çalýþacaðým. - I´ll work on working on it, or I´ll do my best to work on it

- Çalýþmayý deneyeceðim - I´ll try out working, I´ll see what working is like

Think of Denemek as coming from deney, experiment, it´s to try something out.Where Çalýþmak you´re not really testing anything, but you´re trying to do it.

idk if that helps but good luck!

çalýþmak (as "to try") needs something -a: çalýþmaya çalýþacaðým

-  I´ll try to work: "çalýþmayý deneyeceðim"  or  "çalýþmaya gayret edeceðim"

--I´ll try my best :   "en iyisini yapmayý deneyeceðim" or "en iyisini yapmaya gayret edeceðim"

Thanks for the correction, you´re right it should be

- Çalýþmaya çalýþacaðým.

And yes, I realize - çalýþmayý deneyeceðim -  doesn´t mean I´ll try my best but saying - I´ll try working on it - doesn´t give quite the right meaning. Thanks for catching that though!
