I would imagine the answer to your question really depends on where that person is sent.  If he is in a dangerous area or simply working in an office or kitchen miles from danger!

In Turkey, they say the military service makes a boy a man.. You know we normally live with family until we get married, so this is a time when they are on their own, where the boy is no more spoilt by the family, eat what he is given, don´t complain, listen to the commander..

But I should say, Sirnak is one of the most dangerous places to be.. Good luck to him.  And if you see him afterwards you will be listening to the military service stories for a couple of years.

Being a soldier for a while makes man more missing for everything about civil (not military) life including gf, wife, family, a glass of tea, fresh baked bread, even noisy street seller. After some times in military he says "ulan doðdum doðalý askerim sanki" meant to "Buddy!, its as if I am a soldier when I was born"

To be cold? Dont make me laugh

PS: I was in military service 13 years ago.

if this city in the dangerous area and may expose the person to real military operations, it will stay with him forever. The other depends on person´s character. If person is inclined to  reflexions and introspections, it could be especially painful. If person is stable then it is much easier. Hopefully being driver is less dangerous than being a soldier.

Are there Turkish members here who can tell about their military service? Vineyards, Fatih, Sui Generis, Thehandsom, MrX67, others? Did it change your character / behaviour? In what way? If it wasn´t compulsory, would you have joined as well?

I understand that soldiers dont become cold and they remember their gf or wife even more..i see that this is not the case with mine since he ony contacts me once every two weeks or 10 days.. therefore i now made my decision of what i will do

thank u

In my opinion it is highly unlikely that your bf has become cold because of the army. There may be something else going on and I think you should confirm that before making big decisions.

The psychological effect that soldiers usually have is a post-traumatic stress disorder - you can read about it more.

well

You have no idea what happened.

In the army they add þap (I think english equivelant is ´alum´ ) into meals in order to suppress untimely excitements of those young men .

I think what happened was that the person who was adding alum into meals made a mistake and added something else which grows hair..

I still dont know what it was..But me, went into army as bold as an egg person and changed into ´this´ in a  period of a few months..
