it`s all about hypocrisy. Why do you think people in Turkey ignore the religious rules not to have sex without marriage or not to get alcohol, but follow the rule not to eat pork? It`s because, living without getting alcohol or sex is dull, but there are so many substitutes for pork(pork is a crappy and unhealthy food anyway).

It`s the same for Christians too. How many Christians follow the rule not to have sex before marriage? It`s the same rule in Christianity.

Actually I heard a reason for Turks not to eat pork is the association with Christians, who do eat pork. But that doesnt make it less hypocritical Ive had lots of talks with friends who fast during ramazan, but drink and screw around as they please the other 11 months.  In that case I really fail to see the point. And they didnt really have an answer to it themselves.

who told that to you? Christians eat pasta too, don`t they? so why do Turks eat pasta if they don`t want to be associated with what Christians eat? Some hearsays are really ridiculous and unfortunately there are so many people believing them.

 The whole "pork thing" actually existed in most cultures as the pig used to be thought of as dirty.  Since we now know more about this wonderful animal and realise it is not dirty at all, most cultures eat it

what is so wonderful about pigs? they eat shite, and their furless skin looks disgusting. Honestly I don`t understand why some people prefer it over cattle meat. It`s taste is not even so distinctive.

Pigs are intelligent creatures whose natural environment is in the woods.  They are not supposed to live in farms or pens and their skin cannot cope with sun.  They have to cover themselves in mud to protect their skin. They eat whatever is "thrown" at them by horrible owners, but in the wild they forage in the woods for truffles

 Yep. I actually feel sick when thinking of pork pies, my nana used to bring them for us. But bacon, really. They can forget about the sausages and baked beans in a fry up, just well fried bacon with tea is enough for me

but those pigs that live in the woods(are they called boar?) are very different from those that live in farms. They do have fur and, they look totally different. My relatives in Sivas hunt them and eat, It`s more like cattle meat, more reddish and more tasty.

 Actually many people in Turkey told me (younger people that is). The difference between pasta and pork is that it is not forbidden by Quran.

And you dont need to speak so belitteling to me. I was giving a reason why some muslim Turks can justify their action of taking alcohol but not pork meat for themselves by using Christianity. I did not say it is a valid reason or that I believe all Turks feel this way.

 Pigs and boars are from the same family, and live in the same environment.  There are some farms now which allow pigs to live in their natural habitat which IS in the woods NOT on farms!!!!

I agree with you about the breakfast thing, especially since I dont ever have breakfast unless on holidy in Turkey I relaly cant eat much in the mornings, and bacon would  be too much. But you should remember it comes from a time where people needed fuel to work on all day afetr getting up before the sun stopped her sleep.

Did Turkey’s Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoðan not explain the source of his multi-million dollar wealth by the jewelry gifted to his son during the little boy’s circumcision ceremony? I do not want to imagine the ceremonial set-up that merrily produced millions of dollars in gifts to a little boy.

  That was perfectly in line with Mr. Erdoðan’s son’s wedding at the Dolmabahçe Palace, which was guarded by 4,000 policemen and supported by four ambulances and a fire brigade, plus a fancy broadcast on state television. Only a Sultan could have had a wedding like that; minus the TV broadcast.

  That was also perfectly in line with Foreign Minister Ali Babacan’s little son’s circumcision ceremony which was no less extravagant than an Ottoman Sultan’s merry ritual: clowns, a marquee, teeterboard and a treasure box so that generous guests could leave their precious gifts.  

  And all those were perfectly in line with President Abdullah Gül’s daughter’s wedding ceremony which was no less modest than any one of the “observant Muslim” traditions of celebrating “a la orient.”

 I think the point is - there is hyprocrisy in all religions (except Pastafarianism).  Why are you just singling out once instance and using Islam as your example?

 It´s not about hypocrisy, rather we are all HUMAN...no one is perfect.  You face temptation everyday and hopfully your faith & morals are strong enough to resist it.  However, realistically people can be weak so therefore temptation isn´t easily avoided.
