We returned to Ankara last night. The bayram holiday went well, it was a holiday as well as a change of scenery for us. Mansur spoke with us, he said he was well, and that sentry duty at night was cold. Thank you for the greetings from your family. We congratulate you on Christmas, and hope it goes well for you. Take care of yourself.

We got back to Ankara yesterday evenýng.  Bayram went well for us, both the holiday and the change of surroundings.  We also spoke to Mansur.  He said he was well and the nights on duty are cold.  Thank you for your family´s greetings.  We wish you all a happy Christmas.  Take care.

My attempt.

Translation of the following sentence has not been understood.  Can Marionin Turkey {or someone just as expert]kindly help?

>>Bizde sizin noelnizi kutlar guzel gecmesin dilerim.<<

geçsin = let it pass [may it pass]

geçmesin = May it NOT pass ???   Am I right?? Hence:-

>>We also wish your New Year not to pass nicely.<<  !!!!!!!!????????????

seriously ...

It is the "soft infinitive"

geçmek: to pass

geçmesini: its passing

So "iyi geçmesini diliyorum" : I wish that it goes well

You are right it does look like the negative, but you get it from the sense of the sentence, and from the endings added to it.

iyi geçmemesini diliyorum (sounds really funny!!): I wish that it doesn´t go well.

You can also put all the other personal endings on:

olmak: to be

olmasýný: its being.

olmamýz: our being

olamanýz: your being

iyi olmanýzý diliyorum: I wish you will be well

babanýz doktor olmanýzý istiyor: your dad wants you to be a doctor

yaramaz olmamýzý düþünüyor: he thinks we are naughty.
