Hello there, I thought I would add a few thoughts on your thread that may help you understand the use of these better.
Let´s start with -ebil, -abil.
Turkish language is notorious for compound forms. The root verb in -ebil, -abil is the verb BILMEK ´to know´
When you say YAPABILMEK, you are actually compunding two verbs - YAPMAK & BILMEK.
YAPMAK means ´to do´ BILMEK means ´to know´, and hence, YAP+A+BIL+MEK means ´to know how to do´ something.
Along the same lines, GOREBILMEK could be broken down as GOR+E+BIL+MEK, meaning ´able to see´. While GORMEK would mean ´to see´, GOREBILMEK would mean ´to be able to see´.
There are controversial theories about how Turkish resembles Latin languages in respect to its use of -ebil, -abil in the sense that Romance tongues, or languages influenced by Latin make use of the same forms.
CAPABILITY could be broken down as CAP+ABILITY,or the very word ABILITY, which would be ABILITA in Latin would correspond to the Turkish BILMEK in its compound forms. It is not really clear which language influenced the other.
The use of -meli, -mali is more complicated.
YAPMAK ´to do´
YAPMA ´doNOT do´ or "the act of doing something´ (Turkish is one of the rare languages in the world that expresses the imperative form of ´not doing something´ and the ´act of doing something´ with the same suffix. So, it can be confusing.)
BU ODEVI BU SEKILDE YAPMALI would translate roughly as ´This homework should be done in this manner.´
BU ODEVI BU SEKILDE YAPABILMELIYIZ, on the other hand, would translate as ´We should be able to do this homework in this manner.´
BU FILMI GORMELISIN would translate as ´You must see this movie.´
BU FILMI GOREBILMELISIN would translate as "You should be ABLE to see this movie.´
There are no clean explanatins in regards to -meli,-mali as its usage is very idiomatic. i would pay attention to the way natives use it.
