sigara almak için param yok = sigara alacak param yok

impulse explained to me that the meaning is similar, so i guess either way is ok to use.. for me it would cause less confusion the other way , but...........

-acak in this case is a participle which changes the verb almak to an adjective describing the noun para (kind of like "cigarette money" in English (implying that´s the money you will use for buying cigarettes in the future). Turks will turn everything into an adjective if they can, and participles is just one of the ways to do it.

It is a future participle, because the action of buying will most likely be in the future.

If you wanted to buy the cigarettes right this moment and talked about the money, you´d use "sigara alan para",

If you were talking about the past, you´d say "sigara almýþ para",

If you wanted to talk about "cigarette money" in general, you´d use "sigara alýr para",

etc.

If you want to use almak, I think you could say "sigara almak için para".

sorry but there is nothing as "sigara alan para" and "sigara almýþ para"; "sigara alýr para" is ok.

 you can use "-acak" participle when talking about the past, present or future, doesn´t matter:

"last year I didn´t have time to go there.

this year I have time but I don´t have money to go there.

I hope, next year I will have both time and money to go there."

( of course it is stupid to repeat "to go there" each time, but this is to explain)

"geçen yýl oraya gidecek/gitmek için zamaným yoktu,

bu yýl oraya gidecek/gitmek için zamaným var ama param yok.

Umarým seneye/gelecek yýl oraya gidecek/gitmek için hem zamaným hem param olacak."

How would you say "I didn´t have money to buy cigarettes" using the participle in the past? For example "I didn´t have money to buy cigarettes yesterday?

Thank you Dilliduduk, I think I got it. So you´d use the future participle to describe something that would happen in the future regardless of the point of reference in time, even if the action already happened.

Just one more question about this. How would you say "the money that was used to buy cigarettes"? Wouldn´t "sigara almýþ para" apply then? or would you use the -dik instead?

you can say "sigara alýnmýþ para", but not "sigara almýþ para"

but you can also say ( actually you do say usually), "sigara almak için kullanýlmýþ para"
