Recession? Not for everyone apparently. Russian Billionaire Telman Ismailov just spent $1.4 Billion of his own money building the most expensive hotel in Europe. The Mardan Palace hotel is located in Antalya, on the Turkish Riviera. The building was inspired by the Ottoman empire and the famous Dolmabahçe Palace in Istanbul.

The hotel has 560 rooms, 2 of which are "royal suites" which can be yours for just over $18,000 a night. That does get you your own private "golden" swimming pool so its totally worth it.

Regular rooms start at a much more reasonable $300 a night. Suites are equipped with remote controlled toilets, flat panel TV´s with a multimedia system, Hermès toiletries and access to a 24 hour butler service.

The hotel is scheduled to open its doors in June. When guests are not enjoying the amenities in their rooms, they can visit the spa (which covers 2 acres), the vitamin or Champagne bar, or a golf course designed by Jack Nicklaus.

I guess just the same as many middle class hotels in Japan have (and also public toilets in department stores, parks, museums and in many people´s homes): a toilet with next to the seat buttons for flushing, sprinkling body parts at choice (...), music, deodoriser. Some there have a remote control not attached to the toilet seat but on the wall. Must say, very nice.

I guess any public toilet would appreciate a deodoriser but other than that... you may have finished your business by the time you set the appropriate music lol

Maybe in that posh hotel you indeed can choose your own music (wonder what one will pick with different types of ´business´....   ) but the ones I mean just have one sound - to avoid other people hearing what you are doing (what might thát be?).

Aha fantastic idea, maybe that´s it - for guests with a shy bladder

The Hamam Suite - with private jaccuzzi and hot stone - costs the first week of June only 450 Euro per night ....

I thought the toilets in Germany were nice....but it seems the Japanese have out done everyone in the toilet arena.  Here is the history of Japanese toilets...more than you probably wanted to know.  It is interesting though.  Cool

I think the name ´Turkish Riviera´ is mainly applied to the Mediterranean coastline around Antalya (includes resorts/towns e.g. Belek, Side, Alanya and many others)
