Hello,

I am new here so I´m not really sure if I´m posting this topic in a good subforum, but I´m really interested about few details on this subject.

Does anyone know if the men undergoing their military duty are allowed to have contact with people from outter world, are they allowed to have visits, go outside from time to time,...

I would appreciate if someone could give me info about this. Thanks in advance!

(feel free to PP me too)

I  finished my military obligation like a month ago. And as for your questions:

1) Yes, they are allowed. Nobody visited me but I kept hearing people names announced for the visitors who came for them.

2) There are phones you know. He can also use a phone card.

And for the Cell Phone question somebody asked, you can hide one but if you get caught, they not only take the phone but kick your ass with some nicely put and arranged comments about the intelligence you posses

I think the time of the service is extended in such situation!

And yes, at the weekend usually they can go out. And if they have close relatives (mom, dad, siblings, wife or kids), some weekends they can even spend the night there if they prove this. My uncle did his service where we (with my mom, so his sister) lived so he was coming to stay with us at the weekends at least once in a month. Visitors are excepted during some determined times at the weekends, too.

Actually they do not take such an action since it will be overkill.

What they usually do is canceling your upcoming permision to spend outside, which is fair enough.

And of course you will get some harsh comments from your officer, such as:

Officer: What do you do in Real Life soldier!

Soldier: I am Computer Scientist sir! I write programs.

Officer: You even cannot comprehend a simple instruction such as not carrying a cell phone and yet you claim that you write programs! You are an idiot! anything you write is questionable!

Soldier: Yes sir!! I am an idiot sir!!

Officer: Do you understand that your location can be tracked if you use a cell phone! and that is why it is banned!

Soldier: Yes sir!! I am an idiot sir!!

Officer: Go to your guarding location!

Soldier: Yes sir!! on your command sir!!

And after a few days, you learn that your permision is cancelled and you are listed in the worst shift for the coming week.

It is that simple   so don´t get caught hehe

Basically these are the ways to contact:

Letters - romantic, old-school...I used to send them every week. The problem was that the guys working in the army post office wanted money or cigarettes for them every time my boyfriend picked them up :S

Phone - there are payphones on the base. I used to let him ring my phone, and then call my boyfriend back on the Turkish number because I could call him very cheap During the last months he also had a mobile phone, which he hid (I guess) in is underwear. I never called him on that ofcourse unless he called me, but would send text messages at night.

Free day - Usually my boyfriend was free one afternoon in a week. That was our internet-time

Vacation - all together he had 4 weeks he could spend on holiday. He used them as followed, three times one week, and he used his last week to leave the army early.

Visiting - people are allowed to visit. I was never able to visit my boyfriend in the army, but I know his mom did.

My boyfriend is currently serving his military time. he occasionally calls me and he has one day a week off where he goes to an internet cafe to talk to me.

I have not been able to call the phone number back though...i wonder how i can do this?

i just wish time would go by faster....we have been apart almost a year now and it is getting unbearable...but I´ll be moving to turkey as soon as he is done

My boyfriend used to ring me with a payphone on the army-base, I would see the number in the window of my cellphone. I would go straight to my house phone and enter the number there, calling him back straight away Sometimes I would call back to slow and have some unexpecting Turkish soldier on the other end of the line

I don´t know if the phones on your bf´s army-base also show their number when you are called. Otherwise, he just has to save money for the phone

My boyfriend is currently serving in the Turkish army. He usualy gets one day off per week, but has to be back at the base at like 4pm. He´s not allowed to use his mobile. I think there would be a punishment if he was caught with it...

He told me once that him and his army friends went to the kitchens and took some bread...unfortunately they were caught, and had to peel three large boxes of onions as punishment!! Quite funny really... They didnt do it again.

I miss him very much, but will see him in 9 weeks when he gets out!!
