How would y ou make a sentence saying what you want.
Would it be like:
Ekmek istiyorum
or is this wrong?
Any help and examples would be great!
Ãstiyorum is fine for "I want"
You need to keep in mind that the verb "istemek" puts its object in an accusative case. What that means is that you need to add the suffix -(y)i (or its variation according to vowel harmony) to the noun, especially when you´re talking about something specific that you want.
Examples:
Arabayý istiyorum. I want the car.
Parayý istiyorum. I want the money.
Kitabýný istiyorum. I want your book.
Kedini istiyorum. I want your cat (don´t ask, I´m not very imaginative).
When you want something in general, you can skip the -(y)i ending and say:
Ekmek istiyorum. I want bread (any bread will do).
If you´re talking about a specific bread, you´d say: "Ekmeði istiyorum." (in most cases k changes to ð when you add a vowel after it). I want the bread (the one that you baked for example).
Now when you want to say you want to do something, most of the time you´d put the verb in front of "istiyorum" in its -mek/-mak form.
Arabayý sürmek istiyorum. I want to drive the car.
Seni öpmek istiyorum. I want to kiss you.
Türkçe öðrenmek istiyorum. I want to learn Turkish.
If you want somebody else to do something, you´d add the possessive ending + (n)i on the short infinitive of the verb.
For example:
Beni öpmeni istiyorum. I want you to kiss me.
Arabamý sürmesini istiyorum. I want him/her to drive my car.
Türkçe öðrenmemizi istiyorum. I want us to learn Turkish.
