Babam ve oğlum.. You definitely have to watch this film. It ıs very touching and very sad but beautiful story.
Though we watched late and the film ended at 3.30 (I bought Kadir the DVD), I was too touched to sleep.
It ıs probably so touching because it is the story of many Turkish families..

I just finished watching 'Babam ve Oğlum' about an hour ago! Such a lovely film - so sad - but I really enjoyed it. The only other Turkish movie I have seen (so far) is 'Hacivat ve Karagöz neden öldürüldü' which I also enjoyed and have watched several times - understanding a little more each time I'm pleased to say. Both films recommended by TC members * çok teşekkurler!
BTW the Turkish title of the 'Mustafa' film is 'Mustafa Hakkinda Her şey' - directed by the same director as 'Babam ve Oğlum' I think.

Objectively speaking, I don't think that Babam ve Oglum is such a great movie (despite it's good points), I don't even think that it's the best Turkish movie. I haven't seen that many Turkish movies, and I am yet to see the best one . I used to watch Turkish movies more frequently and remember liking one, which for a change had less retarded and more mature and funny type of jokes and seemed to be less rude and primitive in sexual matters.
GORA was the first Turkish movie I've seen and I thought it was terrible, but then I'm not a Star Wars expert of fan, so that might have added to my liking.
There are not that many great movies out there anyways, but the best ones are - yes - American. Oh well, money and experience matter.

Well - as I said I've only watched 2 Turkish films so far but having watched a fair bit of Turkish television I dont think there is any point in rating either films or TV in comparison with American productions - or UK or European for that matter. Babam ve Öglum was on a par with a made for TV movie in the UK but I enjoyed it and it will hopefully help me with my Turkish. I have no expectations of a blockbuster movie from Turkey at this moment in time but welcome any more recommendations!

Actually I disagree. I prefer to watch low budget independent films - whatever country they are made in. I hate the way Hollywood change stories to improve ratings and, even worse, change facts in historical films for patriotic reasons or because they think people "like a happy ending". For some people its the only version of that piece of history that they see - and they believe the Hollywood hype!

Well, good for you . Let's not discuss American movies here.

For those who can come to Rotterdam: from January 24th until February 4th there will be the new edition of the IFFR (International Film Festival Rotterdam). Every year in more than 15 cinema's hundreds of films from all over the world, every year also Turkish films. Most low-budget, some long, some a few minutes, some documentary's. Absolutely worth visiting. There are package deals for a combi hotel-film; you can choose film by film or take a passe-partout. Cheap hostels are in town (if not booked out yet ). The complete programme will be available in January at http://www.filmfestivalrotterdam.com/default.aspx?liso=en-US

I was answering your post Catwoman. You were criticising Turkish films and saying American films were better and I disagreed. It was your opinion - good for you
