Euro-asian centric...right It´s so eurocentric to forget that Istanbul is mostly Asian
Haha, you´re right!
I think that another thing that gives Istanbul its nice feel is the openness of Turkish people in general, their hospitality and laid-back attitudes.

I can not say Istanbul is the greatest city in the world... I haven´t been everywhere. But I have to say culture wise, it´s on top of my visited-cities list. On other aspects it doesn´t always score so good, like being groped in the tram-wise.
You can get groped anyplace...all you need is a crowded space.....hmmmm maybe they don´t grope in Holland? I hate any crowded space for exactly that reason, but having grown up in a groping latitude, I´ve evolved a strategy to deal with it. NYC must be grope capital of the world.

They also grope in Holland, but it hardly ever happens. I have only been groped in Holland during festivals, and in clubs or bars. Not in public places on a normal day, in an every day situation. I have never been groped in public transport in Holland or other countries, except for the tram in Istanbul... I don´t know why groping is linked to trams there, but it happens in one form or another every single time! I wonder if there is a club of tram-gropers there, that just follows me around...
The metro has treated me well though Haven´t experienced groping there, neither in the city busses or the ferries! And how great are those ferries.. really love those in Istanbul. Especially when people start to sell stuff. I still feel sorry that I didn´t buy a hat/manual hand-ven in one, on the boat the the islands...

As for Istanbul being the most beautiful city in the world - I haven´t seen all the cities yet so can´t really say it is or isn´t one I just know I loved it, I mean the city centre, mosques museums and charming little cafes and tea gardens. The fact that it looks way more exotic than polish cities might have influenced my perception, though But once you´re not in the centre, you get to see dilapidated buildings and boring blocks of flats just like everywhere else. Ok, not everywhere, but like most big cities.
