what is the different between (hayır) and (yok)

and when i can use (hayır) or (yok)

yok means there isn´t any, eg: there is no milk - süt yok.  No problem - sorun yok

yok goes with var, yok = there isn´t/aren´t  var = there is/are

hayır just means no, like if someone offers you something and you say no thank you

eg: would you like some tea? No, thank you = Çay içer misiniz? Hayır, teşekkür ederim

they go against each other just about this way:

dir / dır / dur / dür <------versus-------> değil

var <--------vs--------> yok

evet <--------vs--------> hayır

 teşekkür edrim

 birşey değil

 teşekkür edrim

Yok also means just ´no´ and often you hear ´yo´ instead of yok

Note that in daily speech "yok" is also used for "hayır" meaning.

Eve gittin mi? (Did you go home?)

Yok, gitmedim daha. (No, not yet)

O seni aradı mı? (Did he/she call you?)

Yok, aramadı. (No, he/she didn´t)

Su ister misin? (Would you like water?)

Yok, sağ olun. (No, thanks)

"yok" equals "hayır" in some part of anatolia. not istanbul turkish but anatolian turkish. you know istanbul turkish is the standart turkish but there is more than one kind of turkish even in turkey.

in istanbul:

evet (yes)

hayır (no)

in some part of anatolia:

he (yes)

yok (no)

"yok" may be shortened as "yo" or a little long pronounced "yoo" meaning no. even may be "yoh"
