Go to Bodrum!! 2 or 3 hours drive from Marmaris, but MUCH nicer. It´s beautiful there. Lots of shopping, great beaches, and a lot of night-life/clubbing especially in Gumbet if that´s your thing. Many sights to see also, the castle, amphitheatre, etc.

You can actually fly into Bodrum, there is an airport there. And I only said nightlife IF that´s your thing; there is a lot of great beaches and activities there also.
Anyway, as I mentioned, I didn´t really care for Marmaris that much, but your also mentioned Kusadasi ... Kusadasi is also very nice. Sorry, I can´t comment on Alanya or Side ... I haven´t been to either of those cities. Good luck with your research!!

I went to Kusadasi last year and found the main drawback was the lack of beaches in the resort. You can get dolmus to lots of nice nearby beaches and some were lovely and sandy but I personally found it a bit of a hassle, maybe this was because we have kids tho. We did however stay in a lovely family run hotel called the Samsara which made the stay really enjoyable.
In previous years I have been to Icmeler and Turunc both fairly near to Marmaris. I loved both these places as they were quiet and relaxing but still with things to do like you mentioned, we went on boat trips, diving etc.
If you want quite a lively place then Marmaris is good, lots to do, lovely marina, scenery etc but I only ever visit for the day as I like to stay somewhere quiet and then travel in to the attractions.
Hope you have a lovely holiday x

Fetihye area is lovely - Olu Deniz, Hisaronu, Ovacık. Also Kaş and Kalkan - much quieter than the bigger tourist places.

I REALLY didn´t like Alanya, it was just over my limit of touristicness I would not recommend it to anybody. I´ve been to Side, but found it a bit too hot sometimes, and it was a bit boring It´s a smaller place, so perhaps that´s what you want. Kusadasi is crowded, so if you like a quiet place, don´t go there. I guess the same is true for Marmaris, although I did have loads of nice times in both places. Marmaris has a very nice sandy beach in the centre of the city, and you can go take a rafting trip from there. Kusadasi has several beaches, all which can either be reached by walking, or a short bus trip. Next to that it has a National Park nearby, which you can take a nice walk in (it´s a tiny bit colder then Marmaris, so better for walking during the summer). You can´t take a rafting trip from there though.

I´ve been to Side and have to agree it´s a tad boring. Plus, the beach is not too clean I´d say. However there are nice places to go on trips around and lots of things to do on the beach. Since you´ve already been to Antalya region, I´d go for the Aegean region just to see if how it compares to what you´ve already seen
