I think it was probably locked because the latest comments - the ones gokuyum saved for some reason - really had nothing to do with the column in question - just turned into a general slanging match. .  And, in case you didn´t realise, the right to disable comments has always been there for every column.

Right of the columnist. You are free to write your own columns as well and then disable comments if you wish.

And it appears that it was done after spritzer returned as Paramedic and began to attack and swear again at everyone who disagrees with her.

Same thing with disabling comments; when comments disagree with you!
