Merhaba
I´m not sure if I should post this here, or in the language section, so forgive me if I chose the wrong subforum for this (moderators, please move if needed?)
My experience is that listening to music is a good way and fun to get familiar with the sounds and words in a language. Our local library has a great archive of Turkish music, but it´s waaaay to much for me to know where to start looking. I´m sad to say my current knowledge of Turkish singers doesn´t reach much further than Tarkan .
So now I´m looking for a list of [well known/popular] Turkish artists, of which people think they are worth listening to. Preferably those who sing in a clear voice/not too difficult lyrics.. It would also be a great way for e to get to know more about the Turkish music culture .
I listen to almost any type of music, from traditional to popular, disco to rock, Jazz to rap, so anything goes, as long as the artist produces good work.
Does anyone have some suggestions for me? I would really appreciate it.
Çok teşekkürler,
Moi!

Serdar is great. He has a clear voice. the lyrics of some of his songs might be rathr difficult, I learned a lot from his songs.
Kutsi , Emir, Mustafa Sandal all are fine to listen and learn too

I agree with you, listening to music is a great way to learn a language. I just posted in this thread a few days ago...there have been a lot of translations of Turkish songs too. You should look in the Turkish music section for more.

I would recommend Sezen Aksu , Yeni Turku, Nilufer, Fikret Kizilok, Bulent Ortacgil..
Ah but if you insist to listen to music from semi arabesque singers such as Rafet el roman, Serdar Ortac etc, I would recommend go into the real ones like Umit besen, Ferdi Ozbegen, Ferdi Tayfur etc..

hmm.I guess Sertabs` lyrics are a bit hard for learning turkish; I have bought recently her last album RENGARENK and the lyrics are not easy for my understanding comparative to those of Serdar, Candan lyrics...

zeki müren´s lyrics are very clear and very slow, they may be useful.
for example:

Beklenen Şarkı
Gözlerinin içine başka hayal girmesin Gözlerinin içine başka hayal girmesin Bana ait çizgiler dikkat et silinmesin Bana ait çizgiler dikkat et silinmesin
İstersen yum gözlerini Tıpkı düşünür gibi Benden evvel başkası Sakın seni görmesin
Benden evvel başkası Seni görüp sevmesin
Kıskanırdım seni ben Kendi gözümden bile Nasıl verirdim seni Bir gün yabancı ele
Sana gelen yollarda Daima beni bekle
Benden evvel başkası Sakın seni görmesin
Benden evvel başkası Seni görüp sevmesin

yes iam learnin more words and sentences form the songs like this song
Gün geçmez
yüreğimdeki acıamansız yalnızlık
yüzüme vurur geçer zamansız
hüznüm bile yorgun ahhh
her damla gözyaşim daki keder umutsuz sensizlik
geceme akar gider mi sonsuz
kalbim yine yorgun.
yok ellermide aşk sevmek bana yasak
yine bakruhum eriyp gidiyor yavaş yavaş
bir yanlızlık şarkısında yine uçurum kenarında
ah, dudaklarım dan aşkı
düşüyor kor gibi
kalbime..........
Translation
days dont pass
the pain at my heart merciless
loniless mhits my face and goes time less,
even my sadness is tired
the grief at my each tear is pitiless
to be with out you
streams to my night and goes for ever
my heart is tired again
No, love in my hands
iam banned to love
my soul is melting look slowly
ah a loniless song
at the corner of cliff
ah, love falls down from my lips to my heart like a cinder
this so clear song and not diffecult
