It is a verb rarely used in English except in The Bible. I think 90% of my friends would fail to understand what it meant if I used it in everyday conversation.

We´d probably say ´she made up for it´

mmm...´Atonement´ by Ian McEwan - loved the book and they made quite a good film of it too - somehow ´making up for it´ doesn´t have quite the same ring as a title
