Ok – my two cents (like anyone asked, eh?)….

I am not a feminist, although I am a product of an incredibly strong woman who single-handedly put her two daughters through private Universities, but I dare say that I am a “Humanist.”

I believe, and live my life, by the basic Beatles motto, “Live and Let Live.”  Everyone, aside from their beliefs, SEX, race…., should be free to live THEIR life as THEY well please.  If anyone is so against how a person lives their life – they should not simply do the same – what’s the issue?

My fascination with the Turkish culture is that I cannot seem to wrap my head around the patriarchal society and how it continues to exist in this modern world.  Not that the Turks are alone in this, but I have recently met and socialize with a few Turkish men who seem to have such an ingrained way of referring to a woman’s “place” whilst continuing to gawk and admire strong, successful (and beautifully shaven) women in western society.  Their verbalized thoughts are simply that those amazing women are wonderful (and oh-so fantasy worthy), but never ‘good enough’ to take as a wife.  Go figure!  It’s like saying that filet minion is an amazing piece of meat, but I would never dream of eating it!

Reminds me of that old joke:  Man asks God why he made women so soft and beautiful…God replied, “So you would like them.”  When he then asked why he made them so simple-minded…God replied, “So they would like you.”

Anyway, hats-off to all you women out there that are independent, strong and self-sufficient.  Should you look for a spouse (aka partner-in-life) that meets your criteria – may he lead, follow or get the heck out of your way!

As much as I agree with this comment I must say it´s one thing I quite like about going to different countries. For example, male turkish friends of mine remain ONLY friends for the reason you stated (i´m not their wife material). I´m not saying i´m fantasy worthy (far from it!) but i´m not "their type of wife/meal" and so therefore I can have them as friends without having to think they may be interested or want something more etc.

It kind of goes back to the post "male-female friendships in Turkey" and I can honestly say I do have turkish friends that are male. I´ve even been invited to play some basketball - and I would say that is far from a womans idea of a date! {#emotions_dlg.lol}

Interesting thread.  It started as a question about men and turned into a defense of feminism.  Why is it that everytime someone makes a comment about men, whether it be good, bad, or humorous, women must defend their rights as equals?!

I love the famous exchange between Emre Altuğ and Mustafa Sanda. Mustafa Sandal (who frequently appears shirtless to show off his body) said of Emre, "If I had a body like that, I wouldn´t take my shirt off." Emre´s reply was, "If I had a voice like [Mustafa´s], I wouldn´t sing."

I tend to keep my shirt on myself these days.   {#emotions_dlg.sad}

Well,it started out as a little dig at the in built confidence most Turkish men seem to have in their ability to sing and dance and the thread took a complete turn. Very interesting!

Actually, although Turkish men don´t seem to have any more ability than any other male nationalities (in thier singing and dancing) they do seem to know how to enjoy themselves!!

Hi,

Turkish men are usually not talented and they can´t dance well, they are not kind and helpful. They all show off to attract women at first then live a life like a peasant ( village guy) so be careful when you choose a guy from Turkey. It is all act

They are like animals.

They do everything to get womens attention, after they gain their heart...they just start acting like a miserable man...live for their friends...but when they up set them...we are the first people to hear how special and unique we are....

there is only one way to keep a turkish man in line.....being a turkish woman !
