Excuse my bad turkish but I wanted to say:

"From the house, the bird saw outside a cat miaowing and running to the tree"

That´s to say that gokuyum never said that the cat was miaowing while attacking the bird

It was my pure imagination

yemek yemeyi or yemek yemeği? I think yemek yemeği is the correct one because it obeys the "sert sessizlerin yumuşaması" rule.

I thought that we exhausted all possibilities, but I will try once more:

"Evden,miyavlayan bir kuş, dışarı ağaca koşan bir kedi gördü". (İyiki uçan bir kedi değildi)

Note: Miyavlayan bir kuş vardı... ama bir tane vardı... bir dükkanda ve kafeste...onu gördüm ve dinledim! Hem konuşan hem miyavlayan bir kuştu!

Ama uçan kedi daha görmedim...

it is definetely "yemek yemeyi", because here the word is the event of "yemek yeme" (eating), not the verb "yemek yemek".

Similarly it is,

Gülmeyi seviyor. She likes smiling (NOT Gülmeği seviyor)

Dans etmeye gidiyoruz. We are going for dancing.

etc etc etc

I think in old times it was also said "yemek yemeği", "istemeği", "gülmeği" etc because sometimes I see these in the old books. But this is not valid anymore.

(I think in Azeri language they also use like istemeğe)
