Hi Taffy, The link below may help your understanding.

Manisa Turkish

The dir suffix for he/she/it is ......, or they are ....... is optional. They are often used in official notices, but I am told they are not normally used in everyday speech. This is why you often see them written in brackets to show they are optional, but it is not necessary to understand the sentence.

So generally the (y)im is added for I am .... iyiyim (iyi+y+im) I´m well/good)

the sin is added for you are ...... haklısın (haklı+sın) you are right

the dir suffix is sometimes added for he/she/it is ....... O zengin(dir) he/she is rich.

The same happens for the negative (I am not ....etc) except that the suffix is added after the word ´değil´.

I am not rich = (Ben) zengin değilim.

You are not rich = (Sen) zengin değilsin.

He is not rich = O zengin değil(dir)

(the bits in brackets are optional)
