Son zamanlarda hasta ve kendimi bezgin hissetiğimden türkçe çalışmıyordum.

Deli, good question. We would say "Türkçe çalışmaktayım". Since Türkçe is a common noun we don"t put "i" in front of it. For specific nouns yes you can put "i,ı,,u,ü".

For example : Matematik çalışmaktayım (Math is a common name)

( Bu) konuyu çalışıyorum = (I am studying the subject) as you see here

konu (subject)+y (buffering letter) +u (suffex to make it specific)

the subject in this sentence is specific. Therefore it takes "u" .

Hangi tasarıyı çalışıyorsunuz ? (which project you are studying (working) on ?)            Tasarı (project) +y (buffering letter) + ı (suffex to make it specific)
