Yes, sonunda, I studied grammar, mostly from Manisa Turkish. I know the basics but what lacks is routine, I guess.
MrsBee, thanks, I did some of these exercises, but thanks for collecting the links together.
I´ll study the song, si++, probably I´ll find the melody in YouTube, too... I also noticed sometimes songs lyrics stick into a certain grammatical form, and it´s an easy way to get used to it.
But. What I actually meant is exercises like translating "Ali went to school by bike which his father bought for him last spring" into Turkish. The sentences are actually simple but the learner has to pay attention to many things at the same time (word order, moods and tenses, noun states, basic lexical choices etc.).
Oh I see.
I will work out on your example to kick the ball for you:
Ali went to school by bike which his father bought for him last spring.
1-First the subject and verb
Ali went to school by bike which his father bought for him last spring.
Ali went. = Ali gitti.
2-Add the place adverb
Ali went to school by bike which his father bought for him last spring.
Ali went to school. = Ali okula gitti.
3-Add instrumentalis.
Ali went to school by bike which his father bought for him last spring.
Ali went to school by bike. = Ali bisikletle okula gitti.
4-Hmm there is subclause:
which his father bought for him last spring -> his father bought a bycicle for him last spring
Now go through the same cycle for the subclause:
4a-
his father bought a bycicle for him last spring
his father bought = babası satın aldı
4b-
his father bought a bycicle for him last spring
his father bought a bycicle = babası bir bisiklet satın aldı
4c-
his father bought a bycicle for him last spring
his father bought a bycicle for him = babası ona bir bisklet satın aldı
4d-
his father bought a bycicle for him last spring
his father bought a bycicle for him last spring = babası geçen ilkbaharda ona bir bisiklet satın aldı
Now you need to turn this into a subclause in Turkish
S +O + V -> S+Genitive suffix (others) V+-dik + personal suffix O
the bike which his father bought for him last spring
babası-nın geçen ilkbaharda ona satın al-dığ-ı bisiklet
Subject: babası
Subject+Genitive suffix: babası-nın
Others: geçen ilkbaharda ona
Verb=Satın al-
V+ -dik+personal suffix: satın al-dığ-ı
Now combine:
Ali went to school by bike. = Ali bisikletle okula gitti.
and
the bike which his father bought for him last spring
babası-nın geçen ilkbaharda ona satın al-dığ-ı bisiklet
Ali went to school by bike which his father bought for him last spring.
Ali went to school by bike which his father bought for him last spring . =
Ali babası-nın geçen ilkbaharda ona satın al-dığ-ı bisikletle okula gitti.
Notice if you ignore the subjects (Ali and babası in the subclause) the order of one seems like a completely reverse order of the other.
and as such...
