ne boyun?  would you read this is  what is your height?

how do i figure out when there is no other context to tell me what the the meaning is....

You cant figure out if there is no context [ only that word on its own].  "Boy" also means "tribe".

Orta Asya Türk Boyları göçebe idiler. ---> Middle Asian Turkish Tribes were nomad.

Boyun uzun ---> You are tall.

Boyun ağrısı ---> Neck pain.

Unless the speaker uses the person " Senin " then you will know that it has to be " height of  person "

Senin boyun ---> Your hight [ the hight of you]

Senin boyun kaç --> How tall are you ?

whereas we can not refer "boyun" with "senin "without changing it .

Senin boynun ---> your neck. --> as you see we had to change the word by dropping the "u" and adding the possesive suffix.

boyun + un ---> boynun [your neck]

by the way Acute , can you translate  the word "REDNECK " for me ?

Does herşetunsin have the same meaning then herşeyimsin?
