|
"Söylemek" is mostly used in reported speech.
Such as: Ali'ye gelmesini söyledim. (I told Ali to come.)
"Demek" is mostly used in direct(?) speech.
Such as: Ali'ye "gel" dedim. (I told Ali, "come")

Tamam, anlatmaya kalkışacağım.
speak
This is about the physical process of making words or other intelligible sounds. Speaking is more formal than any of the others when applied to a passage of text - for example, a politician might make a speech.
talk
This is about conveying language to another person. "Joe is talking to Mandy". It is more informal than "speak" and implies more of a two way dialogue.
However, in many circumstances "speak" and "talk" are interchangable.
tell
This is very much a one way process. It is used either for instructions "John told Mary not to be late" or for reporting facts. "Can you tell me how I get to the station?".
say
This is more vague. It relates to the process of communication and takes an idea or concept as the object rather than a person. It is often in literary reporting of exact speech "the Turkish official said 'welcome to paradise' as the visitors stepped off the aeroplane".
As an aside, speak and talk take a person as their subject whereas tell and say take an idea or concept.
You speak to someone, talk to someone but you tell something to someone or say something to someone.

Here same:
Ben sana ne dedim?
Ben sana ne söyledim?
But usually, they are different. As Jeton said, you can imagine the difference between reported and direct speeches. I am not a teacher, so forgive me because I cannot say the rules, I just give examples.
Ali, Mehmet'in gittiğini söyledi. -> indirect form
Ali, "Mehmet gitti" dedi. -> direct form
Also it is used as to tell something(not a sentence), or to notice something:
Ali, Mehmet'e akşam yemeğini söyledi. -> Ali told Mehmet the dinner.
demek is also means giving an address:
Ali Mehmet'e kel derdi. -> Ali called Mehmet as bald.

çalışmak: to attempt to do something but not sure about its accuracy.
