Popular culture is important, yes, but I think that is mostly an areal phenomena also. Look at TC (it is like the world in a small size): who wants to learn Turkish because of being attracted by TV seria? - Arab girls.
I think arab girls are mostly attracted to the Turkish series from the romantic perspective they miss in their daily lives not to the language itself as they don´t mind watching them dubbing.
Arabs - and i´ll include myself even if i´m NOT a drama fan - prefer to take the easy way to reach our goals, so they WON´T bother themselves learning such a hard language just because they are attracted to kivanç or Engin ... that´s far far away from the Arab People mentality. It could be satisfactory for them to know günaydın & teşekkür ederim
I´m learning Turkish for 5 months now even if i only watched 5 episodes from muhteşem yüzyıl and then decided that reading "Suleiman the magnificent" would be better.

I am an idealist person and this is my "Kızıl Elma". Thats why I am trying my best to help people on their Turkish for free here. Otherwise, why should I bother myself and waste my time on this site. I want all Turks and all foreigners who know Turkish spead this beautiful language ,in where they live. As lover of "Turkiye" we all should do our best.
And that is soooo appreciated really, actually i started by myself to study... but You, Abla, Henry, Gokuyum, and alll others are the reason that i continue and not to give up
Çoooook teşekkür ederim

The right help at the right moment is essential. It is not only about teaching but also about making the learner visible and making her more engaged to the task. I have had so many excellent teachers on this site I really feel privileged but if it wasn´t for si++ who was always around when I took my first toddler steps and needed something explained or checked I probably wouldn´t have ever come this far. Not to forget all those in-depth language discussions we have had afterwards.

I agree, +Si is a great teacher. Although we didn´t get on well in the past, I must admit , he was always straight to the point and good at explaning the grammar issues.

i admire your vision tunci, and thank you everyone for making this website working and in my opinion is the best resource for turkish learners in the internet.
learning turkish (even without a proper class) is made so much easy with this website, and i think no other language has such awesome website.
the turkish dictionary from this website is one of the most complete one, i rely on it a lot.
you know i just started learning turkish seriously about a year ago, and i don´t have any teachers nor native speakers to help me understand turkish, but through self learning and mostly through this website, i can understand turkish, at least i can read turkish books and watch turkish movies (albeit very slowly, but it works..)
so thank you everyone for your help and hard work making this website what it is and insha Allah tunci´s dream can come true!

Abla and tunci,
Thanks for your kind words but I don´t consider myself "a teacher". I am just a language enthusiast particularly for Turkish.
If there is an interesting subject (debate/contoversy) I also participate in the discussion but lately not much (since scalpel left).

I wonder also. Turkish may and probably will raise its areal status because compared with Europe Turkey is a young nation and because politically and economically it is the bright spot of the area. But hardly it is going to have a world wide importance like English. Apart from the local enthusiasts it is only a small group of freaks who struggle to learn its secrets.

And one Serbian boy.
