Whats real meaning of ''Hello''?

I think its strange the way in turkish you say alo when answering the phone but merhaba or selam in person. This is weird I think.
And the website is true hello has a deeper meaning also depending on who you say it to like to some young turkish men - helloooooooo  or to my friends - hi

Hello is often not the first term to greet someone, it is normally "good morning" or "good afternoon" (formally) I always say hello on the phone at home but at work good morning or good afternoon. If I see friends I might say hi how are you, or long time no see. The more you think about it, really how often do you say "hello"?? What a puzzle

Yes I would like to know how to say hello in all languages because I hate language to be a barrier in communicating. I say hello to everyone in the street sometimes they think I'm weird but I don't mind

As long as you mean it, it is nice
Here, in most of the cities/towns in United States, everybody says "hello", "How are you doing?†to each other even to complete strangers.
I once experiment with this habit and replied one of the "Hello,How are you doing?" kind of approach with "Not good at all, it was a bad day ...â€
She was stoned
She couldn’t reply or comment on my answer. I do not blame her since she didn't know anything about me. And if you think about it, how could one respond to such an answer from a complete stranger.
But anyway, it is a good habit.

Yes, that's right we do that here.It is very good custom to say Hello even to strangers and give them a smile. Some people think it is not genuine but I don't think so.
I had same experience 20 years ago and since that time the answer to the stranger's Hello is always positive and with huge smile like this

Yes we do too. We say Hallo to strangers on the street too. But Hallo is not so common among close people. We more use 'hey' and 'hoi' to our friends and close people.
But there is a mother with 2 young children who always crosses a street in the morning, where I pass too. I started with Hallo and now I just say 'Hoi!' and smile at the kids. I don't know her at all, but I see her everyday with her 2 children and our ways of greeting have become more informal.
You know, these (saying Hello to strangers), are the kind of thngs you do regularly, but never really realize that it are precious values of a society. So it was a good thought to start the day with today. Thank you.

a simple hello look likes a golden key for open the new doors,so isn't worth to use this key for open planty doors everyday without any reason

Words are not always necessary!! I often just smıle at a stranger and usually you get a smıle back. I have a habıt of just talkıng to the next person ın the queue and sometımes they ıgnore you others wıll speak. What ever the mode of language for hello! always smile with your eyes as well as your mouth! It is contagous

from where i'm from... eh hummm...
'Have you eaten?' or 'Have your meal?' is widely use  ... maybe because we're third world country that food is difficult to come by in those days that the phrase stuck until today...
