I want to visit Turkey this friday, and I would like to know how much money would be good to have for a stay of 3 days and 2 nights. I don´t know how much things cost in Istanbul, and I don´t know about Turkish Lira..

Turkey has coins for 5, 10, 25 and 50 Kuruş, and a 1 Turkish Lira coin. (Always try to have a few 1 lira coins handy, as many public toilets in Istanbul require a 1 lira coin.)

Euros are also accepted at many places, but you will pay more.

Plenty of bank machines allow you to withdraw money (Turkish Lira) if you use a credit card.

You can exchange money at the airport (they charge a 3% commission), or use the bank machines after you exit customs.

Accommodation prices in Istanbul vary, and most include breakfast. Generally around 100TL per night will get you a small basic room. I suggest you visit a site like tripadvisor.com and pre-book your accommodation, unless you are lucky enough to have friends or relatives who can give you a bed.

Meals can be cheap if you don´t go to restaurants, (I had good meals for under 10TL, always look at the prices before, and be wary of any place that doesn´t display their prices)

Museums like the Hagia Sophia cost around 25TL for entry, but the Blue Mosques only asks for a donation as you leave. Ferry trips and public transport (bus, tram, and train) is very cheap, around 2-3TL per trip, and cheaper still if you buy an Istanbul Card.

You can buy 1 litre of water for 1TL from many smaller shops.

I hope you enjoy your stay, Istanbul is a fantastic place to visit. I will go there this month as well. A perfect time to see the tulips.
