Well excuse my rudeness and thank you for your drink offer.

I would really like anything you are offering especially since I am at work and a nice alcoholic drink makes the day go quicker!

Sorry to question the translator but are you sure this is correct?

I know you will look after it. >> Ona sahip çıkacağını biliyorum.

Sorry I dont use alcohol. I think this is my only good habit But I can offer you other drinks.

Now I dont know why he translated it like that. I dont see a problem with harpoon´s translation.

I know you will look after it. >> I would translate this phrase in many different ways. Like this; İlgileneceğini biliyorum./ Ona sahip çıkacağını biliyorum./Ona bakacağını biliyorum etc... all might mean you will look after it from my point of view...

But I would ofcourse use one of them up to the thing you are going to give. If it is a good that has a memory, I would not say “ilgileneceğini biliyorum” but “ona sahip çıkacağını biliyorum”

I translated it as “ona sahip çıkacağını biliyorum” because you said “this means alot to me”. And I thought it is a good that has a big meaning for you.

But maybe it is not a good but a cat or a dog? So you can use "ona iyi bakacağını biliyorum" etc...  It is not limited to one kind of translation from my point of view

Literal translation of "to look after" is "çocuğa bakmak, göz kulak olmak, ilgilenmek, mukayyet olmak etc.."  It is important what was on the mind of the writer

That makes sense if it is not an object.

Well then Impulse you did give me the right translation!

I sent a small but very sentimental object to a friend of mine in Turkey. I thought it would be a nice touch to have a note in his language with it

thanks all for your help and drinks, I have realised this is a complicated language but I would love to learn more. I know how to speak a bit of Arabic so hopefully that might help me (wishful thinking)
