Kitchen help needed!!

I will move to Türkiye in less than a month, but I can't cook!! I will have enough people around me who are willing to teach me, but I'd like it if I know some basic recipes already.
Just share easy recipes with me

I can't cook at all!!! I can't even make a proper fry-up without my eggs looking weird!!!
All I know is how to make Yorkshire Pudding.. but that's just it!
Oh and a delicious tomato-pesto-pie.. but Kadir doesn't like fresh tomatoes

Well.. maybe you noticed I live in Holland
We don't HAVE native food Well, we have.. but it's pretty impossible to make it in Turkey. They don't have the ingredients the way we do. Plus, I'm not too fond of Dutch food anyway.
And thanks for the website
The reason I want it in this thread is that I can easily find it back when I need it. Plus, I can't print papers and take them.. I've already got loads of papers, books and lcothing.. taking more will make my suitcase too heavy.

It's just.. yesterday I spend the night at my best friend's sister.. her sister invited us over to her studenthouse, to let us have some time together etc. I just realized that I'll miss those things so much and I started freaking out.. especially about dinner!! I don't wanna go over to Kadir & Gökhan's place everynight just because I make a terrible cook!

Awwwww DK, dont panic! You have enough to think of without worrying about learning to cook. Just have simple meals at first, but with lovely fresh ingredients, salads, breads etc. Then...smile a beautiful smile at him and he won't even notice what he's eating anyway !

Thank you all. It's just all gettin to me and I don't even know how to prepare meat. I mean.. how can you possibly know if you have to put it short on a high fire or long on a low fire? Mum says i'll learn from experience, but by that time I won't have flesh on my bones left

No Kadir & I love it So I must learn it! But I wanna learn vegetable-dishes too, as Kadir really needs to watch his eating-pattern (we made a deal: he will eat better, i'll do sports!) and ofcourse for whenever I will have my British sister over in Izmir

I cannot say anything more oryginal than what has already been said - DON'T PANIC.
When I lived with my parents my mom would never let me into the kitchen so when I moved out I couldn't even cook potatoes! However, after 6 months of living on instant soups I started to cook and it proved not that difficult. Don't worry, I'm sure you'll neither starve nor kill Kadir. Besides, guys in love are not only blind, they're also greatly devoid of taste so he'll compliment you on whatever you cook

Thank you Ania, I guess you're right. Kadir is a pretty good cook though, so I know he can teach me stuff. But I prefer to already know a little myself. it will be so weird for Gökhan that his housemate now actually has a gf that is around, so i dont wanna bother him with my presence alllll the time.

That would be a good idea I guess. In that way I can save them
I think dolma is really something I should learn. If I learn how to make baklava, i'm afraid that'll be all i ever eat

Yes, mum said that about basic ingredients too. In our house the basic ingredients are vegetables in tins (such as red cawl, baked beans in tomato sauce, tomatoes, wecked fruits) and things like pasta and rice, eggs etc.
Do they sell a lot of vegetables like this in Turkey too, or is most of it fresh?
What basic (Turkish) ingredients do you advice, Susie?

Yesterday I was talking on MSN with Deniz. She is one of Kadir's female friends and when I was tehre in February, she and her friend Gözde took me to the hairdressers (upon request ) and had a nice day out with the three of us. We kept in touch on MSN. We were talking about cooking yesterday, as one of our friends Didem, can nearly cook ANYTHING. She's said to be a true kitchen-princess
Deniz told me if I could do rice, I would be able to do anything. So i said 'well you just boil it right?' and she said that in Turkey they do it different and that she couldn't even do it!
So what's that way of doing rice then? The same like the pasta? I'm thinking of making that recipe you wrote above tomorrow. Then I get some practise to see if I can manage everything in time. Is is possible to fry the pasta in the same pan that you used to fry the eggplant earlier, or would it burn on the bottom then?

OMG that sounds so difficult!! If I find time next week or the week after, I should try here at home in Holland before ruining my new kitchen in Izmir
Once I will do it, can I ask you a bit more about it? I'm not sure if I understand the last bit with the nwespaper/towel n stuff!
Back to the aubergines.. i meant to do ityesterday, but unfortunately something with my nana came up and we didn't really have time for anythin.
Frying aubergines.. I have difficulty understanding the English terms, so Im trying to get it clear here:
Frying aubergines = cut them in their length, put a cooking pan on the gas, put quite a bit of (olive?) oil in it, once that is hot, put the aubergine 'slices' in it and fry equally by turning them around?
For a beginner, wouldn't it be easier to 'chop' them in round slices and then fry them up?
Grate the tomato? Does that mean to get the 'skin' off before putting it in the pan? So it becomes a bit like a sauce together with the garlic, because when you move it around in the oil in your pan it falls apart a bit?
If I have 'round slices of fried aubergine' and a garlic-tomato sauce, I can easily make small meatballs with it, right? Kadir taught me how to make Köfte and I have the herbs for it, but I'm thinking of leaving the herbs, because it shouldn't be 'over done' together with the garlic n vegetables. My family tends to it saltless and i think the Kófte herbs are rather salty.
I meant the meatballs to go instead of the pasta, as we ate pasta yesterday..

Peanut Butter & Jelly Sandwich
2 slices of wheat bread
2 tbl of peanut butter
2 tbl of strawberry jelly (your preference)
First take a butter knife, spread the peanut butter on one piece of bread.
With another butter knife, spread the jelly on the other piece of bread.
Then put the bread together to make a sandwich.
I prefer to take the crust off before serving.
