Not true. Turkish girls love jewelry. I know many girls that where many rings. In the villages, maybe it is different. But in istanbul, Ankara, Izmir and other larger cities, rings are very fashionable.

You can see many differences between big cities, and the small ones in Turkey. Also, there are many differences between regions of Turkey. But most of the Turkish girls like jevelerry (including rings).
As a Turkish man who travelled many cities in Turkey I can say that jewelerry is mostly liked in eastern regions and its more populer in small cites.

Anyone have any advice for me?

I am a 28 year old Turkish American with a Turkish father and an American mother. I have never been to Turkey even though my whole family on my dad's side are still there. I have been dying to go ever since I was a little girl. Besides learning on my own, my dad did a very good job educating me on my history and culture. The thing is........he does not seem to want to take me to Turkey! The one time he promised to take me was back in 1994 when I graduated from high school but the company he worked for was in trouble and layed off a lot of people including my dad --- so we never went. For many years after that, I have been trying to get him to take me --- he's had a good, steady job for a while, now, but he just changes the subject or does not act very enthused to take me whenever I approach the subject to him. He tries to make it sound like it's not a good idea for me to go. He tells me I may not be too happy when I'm there because my family is pretty conservative and would be shocked at my outspoken ways or they may be shocked at some other attribute I may have acquired. None of this makes sense because, yes, I am pretty outspoken (I do not know too many other Turkish women who do not express their own mind!) but I am also aware of my own culture and I have diplomacy and cultural social skills --- I'm from Southern California and was raised around different cultures from Anglo to Hispanic to Asian and Middle Eastern! I learned a lot from these different people of different cultures, my father knows that very well. I'm educated and I have never been a wild person. I don't understand my father's hesitation. I cannot for the life of me think of anything about myself that would disappoint or embarrass him and he does not have to worry about incomplete military duties or anything like that ---- he's always been a model Turkish citizen as well as a model American citizen. He loves American culture and American way life as much as he loves his own Turkish culture and Turkish way of life. So for him to say that my American ways may shock or offend my family is shocking to me. There is a category for how to deal with your Turkish boyfriend and Turkish girlfriend --- how do I deal with a Turkish father?

I found the variation in styles in İstanbul to be imense! Everything from very traditional to very formal to very modern to extremely alternative. Although the dress sense of boys is alot less diverse for some reason......

Maybe it is also personal choice rather than tradition. I only wear my wedding ring as I don't like jewellery on me!

I cannot imagine sweetie

Except I occasionally take them off when cooking or doing other jobs - in which case they are on a surface around the house somewhere and not on my fingers or in my jewelery box......
Is that what you were thinking of ???
