RECIPE FOR SIMIT

SIMIT RECIPE
1 1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup butter
2 eggs (optional)
2 tsp. salt
1 yeast cake
9 cups of white flour
MAKE DOUGH THE USUAL WAY. SHAPE ANY WAY YOU LIKE. BRUSH WITH BEATEN EGG. SPRINKLE WITH SESAME SEEDS. LET RISE FOR 30 MINUTES. BAKE 400 degree FAHRENHEIT for 30 MINUTES

What is it? Do you eat it with something or can you eat it alone..... ( and no wise cracks that you can eat with someone )

It's a bread sold by vendors in the streets of Turkey. It's mostly considered a breakfast food eaten with jam or yogurt. Almost like a bagel.

Last time I tried to make dough for Lahmacun it was more like.. well.. bread falling apart :S

Me too Chantal. I have tried making simit twice when I was out of Turkey for over a month. I failed miserably...
Also, normal turkish bread is the best, but I have been unable to duplicate that as well.

Thanks Keith. Simit is my favorite treat. I can't wait to try to make it. I used to own a pizza shop and make my own dough so maybe this will give me a slight edge. I hope it turns out well.
