I am planning to upgrade my computer and to buy a RAM-card accordingly. I would like to know the difference between "512 MB DDR2 533 MHz" and "512 MB DDR(AM) 400 Mhz"?

Your help will be much appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

P.S. I hope I am talking about "memory cards" for computers!

The first one you mention is going to be faster. But now a lot of DDR is 800mhz. If you didn't know, mHz is the speed of the processor, how fast it can deal with information. 533mHz is quick. Is this any use? I can find out more if you like.

Sorry I should have mentioned that DDR2 is newer technology than DDR(AM) which is actually DDRAM.

Damn I'm a genius when it comes to computers (accordingly) ...this was one question I could have actually answered if I was here!

Could you please give me some info about "AMD" processors? Little so I know about intel pentium ones, I don't know an iota of AMD processors. If you match and compare, in terms of performance and quality, few AMD processors with the most similar ones of intel processors I would be grateful. For example, what is or may be the closest and/or similar AMD match of the following?

Intel pentium 4 533, 3.0GHz, 800 MHz, 1 MB, 64/32 bit

What are, for instance, those AMD Athlon-64 / Athlon-64 FX / Athlon X2 -things?

Many thanks in advance again.

In terms of permonce they should be close. AMD processors are relatively cheaper. Recently Intel has introduced duo processors. That's definetely will be my next. If you can afford it, pick a duo. Duo is faster and consumes less power (but more expensive naturally).

AMD (pick your langugae and it will have plenty information for you - if not then just type in AMD processors into a search engine (prefrably Google) and it should come up with many links for you.
Happy to help

Then I announce you my wife!

I am so much happy as from today on I will share and use your fast computer, as I will be able to open more than one window, as I will be able to run more than one application, as I will be able to surf on the net fast. There will be no freezing screen, no restarting anymore. I will no longer swear at my current computer. I am too sick of it. Oh my God! My dream came true-at last!

I was talking about Intel duo. Now Intel quad has arrived. Technology is moving fast!

Intel's Quad-Core CPU (codenamed Kentsfield) Arrives...and Delivers
11.02.06

Intel pops two Core 2 chips into a single package, shipping the first quad-core CPU for desktop PCs. Can four CPU cores find a home in your PC? We put the new QX6700 on the test bench to find out.

By Loyd Case

Intel shipped the Core 2 Duo line of processors back in July, sending a shock wave through the PC industry. Almost overnight, performance enthusiasts who had been singing the praises of Athlon 64 X2 CPUs changed their tune. Today, message boards are full of posts bragging about how they pushed their E6300 CPUs to over 3GHz. It's hard to believe that at the start of 2006, Intel seemed like an also-ran in the CPU market.

Today, it's AMD that's struggling. Once seen as lean and swift compared to the aging Intel juggernaut, AMD is now looking somewhat anemic. The Sunnyvale, California CPU company isn't giving up the fight easily, however. AMD slashed prices of its own processors line when Intel launched Core 2, and the typical AMD system tends to be somewhat less expensive—if also lower-performing—than similarly configured Intel Core 2 systems. But price cuts have hurt AMD's margins, and the last thing the company wants is to become a second-tier supplier, as it was back in the days when it was perceived only as a second source for Intel-compatible CPUs.

Intel still has something of the killer instinct it once had, that paranoia that ex-CEO Andy Grove proclaimed frequently. So today, Intel is launching the Core 2 Extreme Q6700 quad-core processor. Built using two Core 2 Duo dies, the QX6700 is essentially two dual-core CPUs in a single package. This allows it to look like a single processor, which is important for operating system licensing. Microsoft counts the sockets, not the number of cores, in Windows licensing.

We built a system using the QX6700 to see if two additional cores can really make a difference. The answer, as you might imagine, is mixed. In some apps, it makes a huge difference. In other applications, you'd barely notice.
