Basilica Cistern- medusa head
Located in the Sultanahmet Square, it is also known as the Sunken Palace(Yerebatan Sarayi). The construction began by Constantine, was enlarged by Justinian in 532.There are two Medusa's head columns found in the northwest corner of the cistern, this is one of whose head is upside down.
One of the stories says that Medusa was one of the three underground Gorgona Giant's sisters. Out of these three sisters only Medusa was mortal and she had the power of transforming people who looked at her into stones. (Location: Istanbul)
