The symbol and landmark of Antalya, Yivli Minare, is the Selçuk minaret built in 1230 by Seljuk sultan Alaeddin Keykubat, when turned into a Mosque originally byzanttine church. The old church still stood by its side. This beautiful minaret with a fluted conical spire was once decorated with majolica. The words God and Muhammed are inscribed on the floor surfaces with turquoise stones and tiles. Today it is a cultural centre, used for exibitions and conferences, with a small archaeological museum. |
