The song was an Arabesque orginally (by FerdiTayfıur) and has been covered by a hard rock artist. Arabesque + Hard Rock? Yes, and I like the outcome.

I only recently discovered this singer  Kazim Koyuncu

He passed away in 2005, may he rest in peace. His songs have a gentle sweetness and nostalgic feeling. 

I still remember how I first heard his music. We were driving to Istanbul and they played his "Didou Nana" (means grand mother and written and sung for his grand mother) song on the radio, which is a great song indeed.

A nice Turkish Art Music song is covered by a rock band for us to listen to another great song:

I am not a big fan of Sezen and never noticed this song of hers until I heard a live performance by an amator band in a cafe on a summer night. That was a nice performance and noticed that the song is indeed nice.

This is a Turkish folk song and sounds like a Flamenco music by Öykü & Berk. Great stuff!

I like Kıraç. He has basically a bad boy´s voice but it can chance into soft and and almost feminine in songs like Sarı gelin. The vibrato reminds me of gipsy music.

He´s one of my favourite singers too. My mp3 collection has full of his songs such as:

Also, Hüner Coşkuner´s "Nerede" is good if you like sort of a mix of pop and Arabesk. I think she sings very pretty so at least

I have mixed felings about this song. Avarage lyrics but great tune. It sounds like a familiar one (Pearl jam - once).

Nice song! Sounds like a classic.

I´m revsiting this after a while. Sorry for such a delay. Curious about the song and what it means I looked for a translation and found it all but impossible to get a translation. What language is it in? From reading about him, it seems he recorded in many of the Black Sea languages, as well as Armenian. Did he get any legal problems on that account?

The language is called "Megrelce" which is close to Laz language.

I hadn´t heard of "Megrelce" until I watched the documnetary about Kazım Koyuncu.

Does anyone here know who wrote the music for the film Ağri Daği Efsanesi? I reall love the music and have heard multiple versions. I think my favorite is the one by Moğollar. 

That should be Murat Ses and Cahit Berkay of Moğollar who wrote it.

I love the music of Cahit Berkay, have not heard a lot of Murat Ses. Ses seems more Westerm avant guard than Cahit. I like the way Cahit uses traditional instruments in old and new ways.

Someone else I love is Gökhan Kirdar. In particular Bu Aşk and Yağmur.

I wish one could just listen to the music and not have to see the silly videos. I find they intrude on my own visions the music brings up. As for Kirdir, I think his music score is one of the best things about Kurtlar Vadisi. Can you imagine the series without his musical score? 

It´s Gökhan Kırdar actually (See the wikipedia page about him). Yes he is working on "Valley of volves" series since 2002. His music really adds something to the series. The tunes he selects for the scenes makes the watching more interesting experience for viewers. I sometimes watch it and its musics always catch my attention.

Thanks si++..........actually I realized that, but at times I type too  fast and don´t look at what I´ve done. I think contemporary Turkish music is one of the most interesting and dynamic music today. Anyway, I love it. Turks seem to have managed to integrate things beautifully without loosing their cultural identity.

Yalan - Levent Yüksel & Yıldız Usmanova

Yıldız Usmonova was born in Margilan in the Ferghana district,   Uzbekistan. Her parents worked at a silk factory. She studied music at the pedagogical institute in Margilan.

She was discovered by Gavharxonim Rahimova after singing at a Women’s Day show. Gavharxonim helped open many doors for her. After being introduced to professors from the Uzbekistan State Conservatory, she prepared under their guidance, and was admitted. She studied voice, and then later became a popular singer in Uzbekistan after independence in 1991. She became famous throughout Central Asia and released songs in many languages, her native Uzbek but also Uyghur, Turkish, Russian, Persian/Tajik, Arab, Kazakh, and Tatar.

As Uzbekistan’s most popular singer, she regularly appeared in concerts and has released several albums. She is known for her vocal opposition to the practice of lip-syncing in "live" concerts which is widespread among (younger) singers in Uzbekistan. She is one of the few artists remaining who always sing live. She is also believed to have controversial ties to the Uzbek government. Usmonova served in the parliament. Most of the rumors about her ties to Karimov´s government are spread by her rivals on the popular music scene in Uzbekistan, and have on many occasions forced her to go into self-inflicted exile into Russia, the US and most recently Turkey.

In 2008, Usmonova emigrated to Turkey citing dissatisfaction with political involvement and the incident that happened on May 13, 2005 in Fergana (also known as Bloody Friday in the Fergana Valley). However, in her own interview Yulduz Usmonova cites the problems with the control of state in Uzbekistan over where a singer is allowed to sing. She mentions that Uzbek government obstructed her from performing in Turkmenistan, with which Uzbek officials had problematic relations over the border issues. After moving to Turkey she launched a successful career in Turkey, scoring hits with ´"Beni kovma kalbinden", "Dünya", "Yalan" and Seni Severdim, the latter being a duet with famous Turkish singer Yaşar.

I really like much of the old Damar songs from the 70s, (or early 80s?) And also some more recent damar. This one I just found a couple days ago by Yunus Bülbül and really liking it, and some of his other songs. I presume its from the 1970s though.

Of course I have also enjoyed Ferdi Tayfur, so maybe not surprising I like this kind of songs.

Cem Karaca

Muhtar Cem Karaca (April 5, 1945 - February 8, 2004), also called Cem Baba (Daddy Cem or Father Cem), was a prominent Turkish rock musician and one of the most important figures in the Anatolian rock movement.

He was the only child of İrma Felekyan (Toto Karaca) of Armenian origin,   a popular opera, theatre and movie actress, and Mehmet İbrahim Karaca of Azerbaijani origin.   His first group was called Dynamites and was a classic rock cover band. Later he joined Jaguars, an Elvis Presley cover band. In 1967, he started to write his own music, forming the band Apaşlar (The Rowdies), his first Turkish language group. In 1969, Karaca and bass-player Serhan Karabay left Apaşlar and started an original Anatolian group called Kardaşlar (The Brothers).

In 1972, Karaca joined the group Moğollar (The Mongols) and wrote one of his best-known songs, "Namus Belası". However, Cahit Berkay, the leader of Moğollar, wanted an international name for his band, and he left for France to take the group to another level. Karaca, who wanted to continue his Anatolian beat sound, left Moğollar and started his own band Dervişan (Dervishes) in 1974. Karaca and Dervişan sang poetic and progressive songs.

I absolutely love Turkish music. I love the diversity of it. recently I was in Trabzon and feel totally in love with the music of that area. Volkan Konak for example is a wonderful performer. Not just the more traditional sides of the music spectrum though. Turkish pop music is incredibly rich with talent. Much more than the bland, computer generate rubbish that is marketed as "music in the Uk, and dare I say USA.

I have written a blog article on a quick introduction to Turkish music and my fav songs. When I started writing it, I realised I could have spent page after page after page on the wonderful performers and songs and musical talent that Turkey has.

i love turkish music also but i think its stupid and immature to say music from other countries are less good. There are many singers in UK and USA who has 1000 times much more talent than turkish singers, and the opposite. U are talking like Turkey is the only country in the world who has talents. Just because u love some singers in Turkey doesnt mean u know every singer in the world and all other sucks. Grow up!
