As you know, there are lots of members who can start a thread but there are very few moderators to read your posts. But seems you want to help us about threads violating rules. It would be kind of you.

So the title of the thread just below about Muslim Atheletes passed you by? I thought you were "watching me" ?

I wish I had as much free time as you have to watch you.

Ahh yes, I really have NOTHING to do, as anyone who knows me will tell you.

I am curious though ...

(1) There is nothing in the Turkish Class rules about criticising or insulting Ataturk, and yet I once saw somebody deleted for it. This site is a US based site, but because it teaches Turkish language, are you saying we are subject to Turkish law???

(2) Why do you consider homosexuality to be an insult?

(NB. I have no reason to criticise Ataturk at all. My question is hypothetical)

1) I did not say you are subjected to Turkish law. You are subjected to Turkish class own rules which were not created by me. According to rules, to be deleted is very easy but nobody has deleted you so far although you broke too many rules. Once you already confessed that you broke rules. This shows that our aim is not to delete everything or everybody. All we want is to keep the peace.
Turkish class can be US based site but can you say there is not any Turk member here? Lots of around. I see you have written more than 3500 posts but you still dont know which can put people in temper. I dont want anybody to argue here. Forums are not where people argue and insult each other. I hope you understand me. Please dont ask me more about this topic, because I have already talked more than I needed.

I think it is even hard for moderators to stick to the rules:-

9. Avoid personal disputes and arguments. Personal correspondence postings should be kept at a minimum. Personal attacks or insults directed towards other users will not be tolerated. Basically if you don't have anything nice to say then just don't say it all. If somebody posts an insulting comment do not reply to it. It will only result in starting a flame-war. Instead, send a Private Message to one of the forum moderators and they will take care of it.

lol lol lol

I see you still dont understand what I mean. I am sure other members has already understood.

I think the issue for many of us is that it seems that the rules are applied subjectively and unevenly and it is frustrating when an entire thread disappears with absolutely no explanation.
You talk a lot about respect Erdem, so why not show the members here the respect of at least telling us why something is being removed.
And if there is an issue of not having enough moderators, is there anything being done to find more?

I think that deleting threads should be reserved only in cases of severe insults and abuse. In all other cases, threads should only be locked and an explanation for that should be written.

This is against the nature! and wrong.
Arguing/debating/discussing is, in most cases, neceassary to find the best or the relative or the closer truth.
Of course people will disagree, will argue, will discuss. As long as it does not go up to swearing, threathining, there is nothing to fear about that.
Arguing/debating/discussing is the way human beings are moved ahead.

Erdem you should be a politician! You have yet again, completely avoided my questions!

If we do not understand your reason for deleting the entire thread, then how can we prevent doing the same in future?

What are your evidences to judge me? You say "IT IS WRONG!! Respecting Ataturk is one thing" What are other things? Yes, I respect Ataturk. You say you find him heroic. Is to find some heroic enough to show respect? I am sure there are lots of children who find Spiderman heroic. Do you think they respect Spiderman too?

The wrong thing is deleting a thread beacuse somebody mentioned 'ataturk might be gay'. What happens if somebody mentions that? Ataturk is Ataturk. Is it going to change your respect to him? is it going to change my respect to him? Is deleting the thread the only way to defend him?
Are you unable to defend him?
WELL.. I AM.

I think you are talking about yourself while saying " we NEVER learnt what Ataturk was saying in the first place when he was talking about democracy and freedom.."

I was not talking about myself really.
I will stick to what I said :" we NEVER learnt what Ataturk was saying in the first place when he was talking about democracy and freedom.."

Quote:

Please tell me the limits of democracy and freedom. Do you think democracy and freedom is unlimited? If so, why do we need laws?

There should not be very many limits in democracy and freedom to be honest.
I have no problem with the necessity of laws. But I am against the misconception of the laws.
Laws are there to protect the basic freedom of human beings.
Not to prevent the freedom.

I am sorry I can't lock the thread. It is already a severe insult. If not, please tell me some severe insult examles so that I can understand how a thread or posts can be severe insult. On the other hand, you should read forum rules too. There it is obvious what to be deleted or not.

As far as I know there was no insult in that thread. yet to call what is written was 'severe insult'.
To be honest most of the rules are quite open to subjective judgment. Therefore I dont think somebody can clearly say that this is insult or this is not. So it is better not to insist on 'i was simply implying the rules or laws'
