Hehe, it's true. I can honestly say that I haven't met a turkish man who doesn't snoke The whole attitude towards smoking is very strange, like older males ask the kids to bring cigarettes for them constantly while they tell them it's bad... and young people who refuse smoking when in company with older ones...and women pretending they think it's disgusting while puffing away in the kitchen.
Yes I realize that I'm very judgeful now but I've seen it all

Once I actidentally blew my sister in laws cover. I thought that at least her youngest brother knew she's smoking but apparently not. It's just so confusing to know who smokes in front of whom and so on. I don't get it. I'm so glad I don't do it.

It was several things. I work in healthcare, so I was able to convince him over time just how unhealthy it was. He used nicotine patches and he quit several times before he was successful. Really it just took time and lots and lots of encouragement. Of course quitting was much easier once he moved to the US. I think it is difficult for people living in Turkey because it is part of the culture. It is a terrible addiction.

Why do you think Turkish men smoke much and can't succeed in quiting the habit. I am also a heavy smoker.

Because it's not a habit, it's an addiction. That's the big difference.
About the fact that Turkish people smoke a lot (not only men): I think society makes it easier and more acceptable. In my country, for some time now, there have been a lot of campaigns against smoking. Some people look at you in a strange way when you're a smoker or even treat you like an outcast. And since 3 days all restaurants are non-smoking.
I'm just stating facts here, I'd never judge because I used to smoke as well, and I'm still having a hard time not to fall into the trap again.

Elisa, you are right. It is an addiction. However it is becoming a habit by time. Like other smokers,I don't smoke every single cigarrete as I am addicted to nicotine and need some, but it is a kind of habit of hand and lips.

What I don't understand is how a woman can kiss a man who smokes - YUK! And the teeth all stained, fingers all stained, clothes that stink, heart trying to beat faster, lungs trying to gasp for breath, veins struggling to pump blood to vital organs (yes and that includes you know what!) blood being starved of oxygen, cholesterol building up,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, I'll stop there - NOW COME ON YOU FELLA'S STOP SMOKING It is not cool, hip or trendy and just think of all the money you would have............

I don't mind smokers at all, my man smokes a little sheesha/nargile and maybe the odd occasional cigarette but I don't mind at all Me however have not smoked and never will.....mainly due to personal reasons but like i said I don't mind people smoking if they want to.

Call me crazy if you want but it is kind of sexy in some cases

Enough with the smoker bashing...I'm sick and tired of people having a holier than thou attitude about it. If the companies would stop messing around with tobacco and just leave it alone, it would be much better. Who here in really looking at their life styles can say they don't pollute or damage something along the way? The some way people carry on about sniffing smoke, it'w a wonder there are so many people alive now.

I get the impression that just as much women smoke as men in Scotland. We have had a ban on smoking in public buildings for some time now and the groups who gather outside bars, restaurants etc. for a cigarette appear to be equally men and women.

Being an ex-smoker, we are the worst!
