First I want to say: I like this country. Being a tourist and having some business to do with people there, I enjoy spending time there. Yet I am still an outsider, not attempting to move over to Turkey.

BUT, when I read many of the posts in forums and some profiles of the members...and of course met some friends in the chat room, I couldn't help but wonder:
Why there are quite a lot of people 'in love' with Turkey. Many are learning seriously the language, some planning to move to this country and express their love towards it. Of course there are cross-cultural love relationships that contribute to the 'love of Turkey'. And there should be attractive things people experience during their travel...

I like this country, I appreciate the hospitality, I am interested in the east-west culture and history, I respect the traditions...but I won't love this country more than my own nation.

So I am really curious about what so amazing about Turkey...

You are already hooked..

All you need now is a cross-cultural love relationship, to be safely landed..

I don't think it is a case of loving Turkey more than our own nations.

Just loving it a lot, and differently from our own nation.

It is a fascination for the way Turkey manages to mix east and west, and constantly surprise us.

Of course the love relationships, love of travel, love of
different place, having money to spend, nite life perhaps -
All those and many other things contribute to the
different 'Love of Turkey' feelings.

This would be the same of ANY country perhaps.
I'd never been to Canada and then I had to work there. Well,
let me say that I loved it. The aura, the people, the job,
TV shows, nite life. I had no love relationships there.
But it would have just added to the feelings I'm sure.

And I am from USA. There are many beautiful things there
like in Turkey, just different beautiful that's all.

All countries have the same - sites to see, food, beaches,
mountains, history and the people - Ahhh...the people !
Your treatment of the people there will usually dictate
their treatment of you......

The point is, the difference ! ! Love of your own country will never change !....But you can have 'another love '.
For some that love is Turkey.....

Those that write these good things about Turkey are sincere.
They are just a 'gust of wind' blowing through a very
beautiful place I'm sure....some stay , some don't.

Like any other place, Turkey can only be beautiful if you
possess that spirit of being able to see the beauty all
around - no matter where you are.....

I am curious about those loving Turkey so much that they want to move to Turkey. Despite the cultural, political, religious...difference and the honest advice of some Turkish friends here...

BTW, Hong Kong in also a good example of mixing the east and west. Welcome, and you'll find it also fascinating.

It is the Turkish woman that I worked with in Canada that
made me think about beauty in Turkey. She was an simple
lady, but what a BEAUTIFUL spirit she possessed.

I never forgot her kindness....No relationship, mind you,
just kindness and inner beauty...

All I know is that when I am fortunate enough to travel to
such a beautiful place like Turkey, a place with so much history, I hope to run into more people like her.

Thank you... teşekkürler ....MarioninTurkey

Gotcha, Eddie...you found the beauty...
I found beauty in Turkey too. But to move to a whole lot different country is another thing. To travel and spend vacations or plan a short stay...will be good enough for me...

I know this feeling well (read my very first post from 2005). Nothing has changed for me since then, except a few years older.
Its something that you can't put into words and its certainly nothing that anyone whom has never been here can ever understand.

I know this so well. I've been to Turkey now 6 times since february 2006 and almost everyone asks 'why'? That you can fell in love with a country - no, not a man - and want to see all of it, feel it, they don't understand.

The people's strength and pride in their country. Their rich history, how they stand so tall, their culture, their diversity.

I know it probably has problems the same as other countries...political, economic etc but it's their pride in their country that really got to me. The passion in my husbands voice when he talks about it to me. Gives me goosebumps!

I am pleased you mention Hong Kong - I love it equally to Turkey! It is a fascinating place, full of intrigue, mystery and excitment! But it is of course much smaller and can easily be explored in a few days! To me the things I miss most about Hong Kong is the smell, the sound of the crossings, the bussle of a busy business day and even the suit sellers!

But Turkey being such a huge diverse country, there is so much to explore with such beautiful geology and geographical wonders to see. I don't think I would ever move to another country as I love Englad too much despite the enormity of the recent flooding and other social problems we have.

Besides it is nice to visit somewhere, have a great time, and then go home and tell everyone.

Glad to have you as a guest in HK. Come again! I agree with you that to visit and explore a nice touring country is one thing, to move to that country is totally another thing. I do like Turkey, I will visit again for sure. Yet I will still go back home. It is an irony that while hearing some westerners despising about Turkish (quite a number of them) don't go home when having gone to the West, there are quite some Westerners trying to move to Turkey....

Hongkongers are very effective, AlphaF, we proceed very fast, no need for ad. So, would the Westerners also consider moving to HK as well, as an alternative of Turkey...lol lol

Strangely enough, had it not been my love for Hong Kong then my love for Turkey might not exist now! I met a Turkish man (actually five Turkish men) in Hong Kong at the electronics fair about 2½ years ago. I was invited to visit Istanbul with my husband and from then on my love of Turkey and Turkish people began.

Really, libralady? How amazing! I did see many Turkish men when I checked in at airport in Hong Kong. They came to China via Hong Kong for business. Some of them spoke very good Mandarin, to my surprise. Yet there are just a few Turkish living here in Hong Kong. Maybe I would invite them to visit when I come to Turkey next time. Hope others would find it amazing about HK too.
