I think if they cut out about an hour from the middle....it would have been ok. It was an interesting story but moved so slow. I fell asleep for a while, woke up and didn´t loose the story at all......never a good sign.

Another excellent movie is The Visitor. It´s about a college professor who returns to his apartment in New York only to find a pair of illegal aliens living there as part of a real estate scam.
It´s a wonderful story, subtly acted and very moving. I was really happy to see the lead actor get an Academy Award nomination.
It is out on DVD in the US. I highly recommend it.

Yes, I was thinking an actor with a unibrow would be sufficient to capture the "hairy" essence of the main dudu character.

I recently watched Sophia Coppola´s Lost in Translation (Scarlett Johanson, Bill Murray) and Good Will Hunting directed by Gus Van Sant (Robin Williams, Matt Damon, Ben Affleck). I just adore Sophia Coppola´s exhaustive and feminine approach towards observing, depicting life and emotions of her characters in this movie. With the Coppolas´ , talnt runs in the family... it is a delightful movie about alienation, meeting in a strange, asiatic world of a young wife of a photographer and an aged actor, both in sort of a life-crisis, which may not get solved by their meeting, but at least relieved.

SUCKS! Its like a BAAAAAD mixture between the Bible and Titanic. It´s a film to be seen in cinema because of its effects, but seriously, don´t waste your money. I went there about a week ago and I regretted wasting my time on this. Its 2 hours of exegarated (aaargh) bullshit and bad acting.
Was nice to see Amanda Peet again though, I had totally forgotten about the series Jack & Jill I used to watch. Maybe I forgot because it only aired for about 2 seasons.

But...that new movie with Tobey Maguire, Natalie Portman, and Jake Gyllenhaal called "Brothers" looks like it may be kind of good..... I will be seeing that because I like Natalie and Jake....

Not heard of this one. Presumably Jake Gyllenhaal and Tobey Maguire are playing brothers! Funny that because I´ve always thought they were very similar looking and if I´m not mistaken, Jake was up for the role of Spiderman before Tobey got it.

Yes they will be playing brothers actually.... It is a "war" movie. At any rate, Tobey Maguire is the good brother who goes to war and is thought to be dead. Jake is the "good for nothing" brother and romances Tobey´s wife[Natalie] (thinking his brother was dead) but then Tobey is found....
I love "love triangles"
Btw Eastern Promises had Viggo Mortensen in it. Not a widely known movie but worth a try

I watched a scary movie named "Silent Hill" (after the videogame). It was very very scary, but I just HAD to watch it! If you like scary movies, with a scary story and not just simple a bunch of blood, you´ll love this. Although it has enough monsters and blood in it

Saw "The Lovely Bones" this weekend. Very haunting...literally and figuratively. For those who read the book, it is still a worthwhile movie. Peter Jackson did a great job with it. Casting was top notch.
I haven´t read the book but I just looked the movie up on IMDB and I definitely want to see this - it´s release date in Turkey is the end of next month.

Saturday I watched "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels" with Steve Martin and Michael Cain. I forgot how funny this movie was and even though I saw it years ago, I laughed just as hard as I did the first time. It is about 2 con men who swindle rich women out of money at a French Riviera resort town. I think many dudus learn from this movie...but its very very funny!
Last night I watched "The Invention of Lying" with Ricky Gervais. I laughed so hard I lost my breath!
Both are very funny movies!

I love that film to (Dirty Rotten Scoundels) and how could I not love it with our very own Michael Cain in it! There are some films that will always make you laugh no matter how many times you see them:
The Canon Ball Run, Planes, Trains and Automobiles and Uncle Buck are three of those.
But recently I watched "Ray". What incredible performance by Jamiee Fox as Ray Charles, an amazing story and very sad too.

Me too! It was on tv the other day, and I also liked the messages in the movie. How easy does a misunderstanding grows into something big...
At the moment I´m watching Lawrence of Arabia, and I´m enjoying it actually, even though it´s WAY old.

Beautiful music, fabulous photographs of horses and the desert...but that film, Lawrence of Arabia, is full of lies and deception. I hate that film. That was one of the major campaigns that caused so many problems that persist today. It is one of the most anti Turkish propaganda films around.
Have you ever studied the history of the events portrayed in that film....The Arab Revolt...(against the Ottomans)? The period is very well documented. Even Lawrence was disgusted by it when he realized how even he had been duped.
Actually it was a British aristocratic proimperialism spinster who did most the work for that program. She laid the groundwork. Her name is Gertrude Bell. It was Gertie who supplied the intellegence to Lawrence, told him where the oasis where, who would be friendly.....and even she was disgusted with the outcome.....she died of an overdose of sleeping pills.

I think the movie also clearly shows Lawrence´s disgust. I don´t know much about the history of the events, but I think the movie shows how in war it seems everybody is a loser, except for the people in the high places who lie and trick around. At the end of the movie Lawrence just went crazy, and the people closest to him (the Arabic people around him) saw this, tried to slow him down. The people giving him orders (English army generals) seemed to not care that much about his mental state.
Anyway, I didn´t watch the movie out of historical reasons Just a classic movie that is a must see. It did trigger my interest to read more on the real story.
I thought the part that the Turkish played in the movie wasn´t that big, apart for some torture scene. Other then that it was mostly extra´s... the vague enemy. Can´t say I think more positive or negative about the Ottomans/Turks after seeing this movie. Yes there was fighting... well, it was a war. You kill the others before they can kill you.

Well, the misunderstaning at the mexican-american border for example... the misunderstanding on why the woman was shot... That´s where the title comes from
I think it shows us that we have to make sure that we really listen, and not be quick with our judgements.

what was the misunderstanding at the border? what was wrong there? the officers were doing their routine check, why panic?
what was the misunderstanding of that woman being shot? if i were the police officer in morocco i would also be on alert, theres no joke about terrorism. i believe that is the routine police carries out in such countries. brutal. difficult for other option. their mentality.

I don´t want to spoil the movie for other people, but don´t you think they totally misunderstood the intentions of the nanny? Going after her like she was the criminal? The Mexican guy was drunk, and misunderstood the police´s suspicion for racism. The police misunderstood his drunken behaviour for some kind of criminal smuggling behaviour (because of the kids). After that, they misunderstood the nanny in the desert. She didn´t do anything wrong, just took the kids to a wedding. No weird kidnapping activities going on as the police thought.
And the police went hunting after owner of the gun, hitting people and stuff, while it was a stupid child´s mistake. You can argue if it was justified to do this, but if it was clear from the beginning what really happened, it would have ended much better.
...why do you think the movie was called Babel? I´m not making this up The whole point of the movie is miscommunication and its effects.

ok. got your point. yeah, babling it is for its title.
but i would disagree with you in many many points.
watched this movie with friends. a striking thing was that everyone saw what they wanted to see. one person watched this film and told me, but he told a different story.
on basis of opinions i realized that people see what they want to see.

not babling... Babel...as in the tower of Babel... no?
Ok, quick bible lesson The tower of Babel was build by humans to reach heaven, and this made God angry. At this point, all these people still spoke the same language. Then, God decided that he would let all the people speak different languages. This made building the tower impossible, since people started to misunderstand eachother, fight eachother, and the tower slowly crumbled down.
The story in the bible about Babel is all about misunderstanding and miscommunication. So, the movie Babel is all about...

That´s a film I love - well, I love pretty much any film with John Cusack in really.
Watched ´Catch 22´ on TV this morning - brilliant film and I hadn´t realised how many now famous actors were in it (of course most TC members are probably far too young to have even HEARD of this movie!!

Mmmm, yeah, I understand what you mean. Interesting comparison between the two movies, never thought about that before.
The Hangover seems a very "drunk-dude/typical guy" movie at first sight, but I watched it with a bunch of girlfriends of mine and we loved it. There isn´t too much dirty underwear humour
