No, I didn´t remember, I looked at your posts. I knew that I would find an example or where you exhibit the very behavior you criticize. And of course people have feelings and get angry and there´s nothing wrong with that.

I´ll tell you what makes me angry, it´s people who think they are better than others and come on the website just to show how much more intelligent or how much more peaceful or how much more "whatever" they are and some of them will even give you links just to prove that to you. Some people just have the need to make themselves feel better but putting others down. Nothing personal against you, I haven´t noticed you to be particularly aggressive, but since you asked why people are angry, I´ll give you my personal feedback.

i often think about those women who set themselves on fire in the middle east and in some part of central asia.

my question is: why do they choose this form of suicide? there are many forms of taking your life. why this painful burning?

when i was a child i read an article where it reported that nearly 3000 women attempted to burn themselves within one year solely in uzbekistan. since that time many many other thousands ended up that way throughout the islamic world.

why do they do so? why dont they simply hang themselves? less painful, at least.

must add: also muslim men often throw a burning acid onto disobedient women who decide to go to school instead of being happy and grateful.

why this burning is so popular among muslims? well, i mean among muslimahs. muslim males never get burnt.

I guess it is something got to do with ´trying to leave some scars in some people´s concious´.

I mean, for example, if a woman commits suicide that way, she might be trying to make her partner feel guilty for life..

I  also remember many men (muslim or not) committed suicide by burning themselves mainly for political causes..

But it is an interesting question..It should be investigated further..

 I have wondered the same thing.  Here is my assumption:

Burning: quite possibly the most painful way to die.  Used to scare, threaten and humiliate women throughout the centuries in the Christian world.

I think that for some reason, these women feel like or believe they deserve to die in this way.  Perhaps they believe they are unworthy, or horrible wives or mothers, ect (I am assuming their husband/families have told them that they are)....  Perhaps the manner of death chosen is seen as a way to "cleanse" their sins (for lack of a better term).

Those are my thoughts anyway.  Good question.

 It is one of the first questions that should be asked.  As for whether or not it is ethical to ask?  Who cares!  I think it is key to trying to understand the women in these situations.  How can we endeavor to improve the lives of women around the world if we don´t ask?  I think that would be a great injustice to these women.  Maybe they are motivated to burn themselves so that people will notice they are willing to burn themselves alive rather than live out a terrible existance.   

If you care about making things better for people or understanding people, you are not afraid to ask questions....even if the answers are ugly.

I tell you who cares. All those politically-correct-how-dare-you-criticize-religion-and-offend-my-sensitivity people. And they brand you as Islamophobe if you dare to bring up to their attention the injustice done in the name of religion or they try to deny that those abuses are related to religion (among other things, I´m not saying it´s the only cause). Sometimes I just want to say f* it, what do I care, I´m not the one who is sentenced to lashes for having men bring me bread and I´m not the one sentenced to 20 years in prison for just questioning the religion or I´m not the one that is forced to marry my rapist or denied education because of my gender. But I do feel sorry for those women who suffer no matter how much those "culturally sensitive" people are trying to sugar coat it. It´s interesting that those people are usually not the ones that have to suffer either.

I feel very helpless when it comes to these women half way around the world.  Maybe we can´t help them, but denying what is happening is condeming them further.  There are so many organizations here in the US to help women.....I choose to focus on what I can do here but we can never ignore these women no matter how sad or horrible it is.

I have no idea how it works in Islam, in Christianity it´s a common belief that one day j will return to the Earth and all dead will rise from their graves. Or maybe it´s because of purifying properties of fire? Those poor women get burnt because they´re led to believe they purify themselves this way.

Melek and Lis, I know how you feel, I´m there as well. It´s easy to say bad things happen all over the world and it´s not only Muslim countries probem. but it sort of is - the scale of it and social attitude towards it.

In the Netherlands the Ministry of Health started a campaign against cervix cancer by promoting a vaccin against it for girls of around 13 years. I wonder, is a campaign like that national or are there other countries with the same?

 Yes vaccination has started in the UK, which is great.  There are a few problems already with side effects to the vaccine though. 

 It is not proven that cancer is inherited genetically across the board, although certainly some forms (like breast cancer) seem to be passed on that way.

I am not sure of the science of the cervical vaccine (and can´t be bothered to check right now!) but I do know that you can only get cervical cancer it if you are sexually active and there are certain sexual transmitted infections which can increase your risk of getting it.

They have it in the US as well, I recall seeing advertisements about it in the media. It´s a vaccine against the HP virus that can cause cancer, not the cancer itself. If I recall correctly that is.

I think you are partly wrong. As far as I know there are 3 main causes for cervix cancer: a. the inherited variant, b. the one ´given´ by you through HPV - mostly because the woman or her partner were not monogamous and c. mutation. You can decrease risks caused by b. by being monogamous both (!!) for your entire life and using preservatives if not but the other two you can only prevent with a vaccin. That´s what my doctor told me when I asked. BTW, the vaccin only works when the girl has not been sexual active.

 They have been trying to make it mandatory here in the US....here is more information on the HPV vaccine. Probably more information than anyone wanted...but read it if you want.

I would rather make my own decision regarding any vaccine. Make up your own mind.

That word always cracks me up. In the USA, you´d use the word preservatives to describe substances added to food to prevent them from spoiling (you see on the jars a lot: no preservatives added" or something like that), but in Polish the word preserwatywa refers to a condom and the word for "preservatives" is "konserwanty", which would translate as "conservants", things that "conserve". Anyway, it´s just funny to me, and I have to be careful when I´m in Poland not to ask if there are any preservatives in the food . 

 I meant the Polish variant (never thought of the American one...   but I wanted to be decent.....
