Quoting vineyards:

Karekin when you are the prima donna you are under the limelight. The US and the UK are capable of much much more evil than Turkey.

How many sovereign countries do the US - UK duo attack per decade and how many more do they threaten to attack? Doesn't this knowledge alone make them the objects of such a criticism?

As a matter of fact, even much feared Cenghis Han could not possibly kill or cause the deaths of as many innocent people as the coalition did. Even in his heyday, Hitler could not pass a National Defense Doctrine containing phrases like : "even if the US government feels that a nation may pose a threat to the US in the future, the US government can resort to military intervention."

They say the total number of casualties has exceeded 1 million in Iraq alone. Remember Vietnam, remember Hiroshima and Nagasaki and try to feel some sympathy for the leaders of those two countries.

Let me ask you openly, how much sympathy would you feel for Turkey if the Turks got involved in not all but one of those crimes?

Nevertheless, I agree with you regarding Turks being intolerant to criticism. I wish we were a little bit more mature in our reactions and understanding of the worldly affairs although this goes for people other than Turkey as well.

Vineyards as I have only had nice things to say about you I take great offense to you calling me a prima donna!!!! I don't ever disagree that the US "GOVERMENT" is full of evil. I disagree that you never expect a US civilian to defend themselves against your racism but if any comment is slightly offensive to a turkish person it starts a HUGE debate! I say "good point" and you attack me???? Nice! I guess the proof of Aenigmas comment is in the pudding.

Karen, I dont think he meant you personally!!! Just a figure of speach, meaning:

"If you are a prima donna you are in the limelight"

as are the UK (Blair) and USA (Bush). I think he means they were the prima donna's (at least I hope he did :-S )

Well I would hope so to!!!!! I didn't exactly act for a burst of knowledge from Vinyards, as I think we are already well aware of how very awful and tyrant the USA is, my post was simply agreeing that with aenigmas point that because of how terrible our (and your) goverment is that it is ok to constantly tell us how terrible we are as a whole, but anything that even imply's something off base about turkey turns into an explosive debate. Thanks libralady for replying for vineyards!

Libralady is right. No personal attack.
I used it exactly as she described. My use of the preposition there maybe wrong but there is nothing confusing in the meaning. So, cheer up...

By the way, even if that wasn't my intention what is wrong with being called a Prima Donna?

PS. In many of my postings I use "you" in a literal sense. It means "everyone" or "anyone" it is a habit transfered from my native tongue.

Prima Donna has a negative connotation as a woman who has to have everything her way or else! (Noami Campbell throwing a cell phone at somebody over a pair of jeans comes to mind!) lol

Wooooohooooo!! I defended you!! NO ONE likes to be called a Prima Donna in the UK at least!!! Makes you think of spoilt, over paid footballers who roll around on the floor for the least little tackle, or people who like be famous, and walk around as if they have a bad smell under their noses. I am sure there are some people who are willing to name names, but I abstain from that!!

Then sorry about the misunderstanding. For me, Prima Donna
refers to such great sopranos like Callas, Tebaldi, Fireni, Sutherland, Milanov etc. And I believe the uses you are referring to are vernacular variations. Prima Donna is originally Italian and everybody knows what it actually means.

I prefer to speak international English. I am not a native speaker of this language. So if by chance my choice of words is improper in some countries, I apoligize for the inconvenience. If I am making a mistake about the universal meaning of that word I would be indebted to you if you correct me.

Other than that I am not curious about local connotations. I use English to communicate. If I break someone's heart because of ill use of words, please at least consider the effort I have so far made to be understandable by you.

You have a very good command of English and Prima Donna actually means "First Lady" in Italian and it started with female Opera singers and I think moved swiftly onto those who want their own way!! Ill mannered, egotistical, with a high opinion of themselves, but not shared by others.

I'm sorry. I really should have thoroughly read your post in the first place. Just don't have my head screwed on tight today. Shouldn't be responding to any comments

I am sorry you have taken my post offensively.

That is all right. I didn't take it offensively.

Quoting aenigma x:

Actually I was trying to defend you.

Hehe! If that was your way of defending me, I can't imagine you offending me! Hehe!

Anyway, on the whole, one point is clear- that the word is in many cases considered offensive and that I had no intention to offend any one while I was writing it (which surprisingly no-one took it into consideration!)
