Quoting susie k:

We all have names some have meanings some don't.

My name means as beautiful as a lily - which of course I am!!!!

My Turkish surname means Elm Tree which is lovely!

LILY ELM TREE !

Has anyone else got an interesting or pretty name meaning?

Does anybody know of any Turkish names which mean interesting or beautiful names?

My husbands friend/ 2nd jobs boss' name means strange in Turkish! I thought this was hilarious when I discovered it!
The Turks calls there children Yilmaz - star or another one interprets as last - ie their last child now they've had enough!

My names Arabic, so when I go there they try to shorten it to Susan as this is a Turkish name , there is even a song about it!

I also found this interesting Susie.
Susan is a female given name, a form of Susanna, deriving originally from Middle Egyptian approx. 2000 B.C. Connected with this is Susa, an ancient city of Persia. It is said to derive its name from the lillies which abounded in the plain in which it was situated, Susan or Shusan being the Persian word for lily. Who knew.

My name Bridget is Germanic in origin and can be spelt many ways - Brigitte, Brigit, Brigita, Bridy. There was also a Saint Bridget in Ireland who was (or is!) the patron saint of small birds.

My name means strong - and by jeepers I am in more ways than one! Stong in the mind and strong in the arm!

Hoping to bike from London to Paris next July so the strong bit does come into it..............

I decided to look up my name this is what I found! Not quite the meaning I have found in the past!

BRIDGET
Gender: Feminine

Usage: Irish, Scottish, English, Irish Mythology

Pronounced: BRIJ-it [key]

Anglicized form of the Irish name Brighid which means "exalted one". In Irish mythology she was the goddess of fire, poetry and wisdom, the daughter of the god Dagda. This name was also borne by two important saints: a patron saint of Ireland (also known as Brigid) who established a convent at Kildare in the 5th century, and Saint Bridget of Sweden (also known as Birgitta) who founded an order of nuns in the 14th century.

I think everyone knows that Bliss means extreme, complete(highest) happiness.
Anna --Gracious; one who gives.
Emma -- an old German name meaning whole or universal. She is an honorable and tender person who appreciates the higher qualities of life.

Maybe Erdinc can clear that issue for you but I am going to comment on the meaning of his name anyway lol

"Er" means soldier.
"Dinc" means energetic and vigorous, robust and active.

so probably Erdinc means energetic/active soldier

Will I get erased for laughing at the question asked by SineNomine?

My name, Esther, the name of one of the jewish/hebrew books of bible, is not originally Hebrew. It comes from the Persian names 'ستاره setareh', which means 'a star'.

Some people seem to have linked it also to the verb 'str' wich means something like 'to hide/be sheltered' and then would mean 'sheltered' or 'i will be sheltered/hidden'.

I go for the first meaning, because it's more logic: Esther does look like the words for star like 'star', 'ster', 'estrella' etc.

With the persian origine I think I was meant to find my happiness more in the eastern direction

I am not comfortable with sharing my name because of identity theft issue but I am willing to share ridiculous events that made my parents give my first and middle names.

My first name means wide and open sea, I have this name because when I was born my sister met this handsome guy and insisted my parents to have his name (with hiding the real reason of course with false ones like how it good sounds, etc..).

My middle name means North Star in Turkish and thanks to my uncle. He forced my father to have his name. It is our family tradition to have the name of his grandfather as a middle name for a male. By doing so, everybody (mostly elders) in our home town can have a guess about who you are even they never met you before. But the problem was, before his death my grandfather told my father not to give his name to his son he might have some day. His reason was simple. He fought many battles (under the command of Ataturk and Ottoman Army) that he was afraid that his name might have brought bad fortune to his grandson. So my uncle had this great idea that I must have his name instead as a middle name and he made it such an issue from something silly like that; leaving no room for my parents to argue
lol

So I now know the Bulgarian version of my middle name. North Star is also known as the çoban yıldızı, so my middle name in Bulgarian is also Denitsa

- my english name is LYDIA, it was given by my mom and implicates WEALTH

- my chinese name is PONG MAN KI( 龐敏琪 ), whereas Pong( 龐 ) is my surname and Man Ki( 敏琪 ) is my given name...
PONG( 龐 ) means HUGE, MAN( 敏 ) means AGILE, KI( 琪 ) means WHITE GEM...
ha ha it's kinda strange to put these meanings together... what is "huge agile white gem" ?? that's ME

- i can also be named as LYDIA PONG, which implies "huge wealth"

- my nickname here is LULULY, which is the combination of "LULU" and "LY"... LULU means STUPID in old spoken cantonese, whereas LY is the abbreviation of LYDIA

- it's interesting about chinese names... different cominations have different meanings
