Prof. Sven Lagerbring of Sweden, believes that Oden was originally the ruler of a clan called Tirkiar (Turks). Professor´s  claim is based on his readings on antient carved stone monuments in Sweden and the similarities between Turkish and Swedish languages.   ?? So what would more precisely be these similarities between Turkish and Swedish?   http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swedish_language   http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Finnish_language   As far as I know Finnish and Hungarian belong to the Uralic language family and there are possible relations between these languages and Turkish or Turkic languages, but it is rather difficult to think that there might be a connection between Swedish (Germanic) and Turkish (Turkic/Altaic/Oghuz)   However, there is an interesting thread here   http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uralic_languages#Possible_relations_with_other_families   about the Samoyedic languages (spoken by the Sami people see link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sami_people) that might be related to Turkic languages. Basically there is a remote possibility that peoples who inhabit the  actual national territory of Sweeden speak dialects of languages that might be part of the Uralic language family.   And also, if you check this link   http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turkish_language      under History you will find this statement: ".....the Old Turkic language written using the Orkhon script, which has also been referred to as "Turkic runes" or "runiform" due to an external similarity to the Germanic runic alphabets." |
