Quoting teaschip1: Quoting KeithL: but just to clarify, if a group of a few Americans are not aware of someone's existence, they couldn't possible be important....
|
You made that statement, not me KeithL. It's also not a few Americans, you expect everyone to know who "Ataturk" was. I'm afraid your sadly mistaken by this. Once again, off the subject from my original post here. But hey what can I expect from the most educated classmate here.
Thanks for your powerful wisdom and enlightment. I will be sure to pass your wisdom on to us uneducated few Americans who don't recognize that Ataturk was a National Hero. How could our government deprive us of this most important information. |
That is exactly the opposite of what I think. I don't care who knows the history of Ataturk. I simply stated you know nothing of Turkey or its history if you can so matter of fact state that Ataturk is not a national hero here.
If you state that 10+10=30, be sure, I will correct you on this too.

im afraid its not as you simply state a few groups of, or a group of few americans, but the majority. ask any american in a street. i dont think its a duty of an american to know who ataturk is. actually only the small group of people may have heard of him (sophisticated education, business in turkey, relatives in turkey, turkish boyfriends/husbands, etc etc).
but for goodness sake he is a national hero! here i disagree with tea. he is a national hero of turks.

This was sarcasm by the way. Again, I don't expect people to have in depth, detailed knowlege of all other countries history's. However, when you offer a differing opinion on a subject of another country's War of Independence, I do expect you to have a base amount of knowlege of what you are discussing.

You-tube was temporarily banned in Turkey for crimes against the constitution earlier this year. If TLC did not enforce this rule, it too could be banned in Turkey.

Comedy after comedy from TC provocateur, why dont you think who show respect to Atatürk? When one insulted to Atatürk, is this not a provocation? Do you know anything about respect to others, your family teached something about respect and moral?

I think there's no need to discuss this issue more. Yusuf asked why he was banned, and we explained him the reason. If you read the forum rules, insulting Atatürk is a reason for banning. Atatürk is one of the major values of turkish people, if you are not sure why he is, you can make a search on the net, there are many sources about him .
