Sorry to get involved but just for those who are English learners. This actually has no meaning as it is.

Don´t mess around would carry one meaning , and don´t mess up another ..not sure which or the two you wanted , but both together doesn´t work.

ok ..As i said it was not for you it was for other english learners..

dont MESS around UP has no meaning .....with or without your capital letters

If you felt that you had to comment about my post, it would be better to read fully what I wrote without getting defensive (as i feel you didn´t get what I meant ) , it was not meant as a criticism to you .

You can mess ´something´ up  or you can mess around with ´something/someone´, or you can mess ´someone´ around - the only way you could possibly use ´mess around up´ would be if ´up´ was the name of a person!

No Silence - you got it wrong - this is the sentence you mean in that link:

´She said you can mess around up until you get engaged to someone.´

This sentence is quite correct but it is not ´YOU CAN MESS AROUND UP until you get engaged to someone´. - it is ´YOU CAN MESS AROUND-  up until you get engaged to someone´

´up until´ means ´until the time that´

easy mistake if you are not a native speaker though

like you know everything..

like you know EVERYTHING..

like YOU know everything..

like you KNOW everything..

LIKE YOU KNOW EVERYTHING!

capitals can change the meaning sometimes..

Sorry Silence, but Insallah is correct (the capitals are irrelevant).

Don´t mess around up has no meaning in the English language, we can guess what you mean by it, but on its own it does not make any sense.  It is a confused sentance.  It will either be:

Don´t mess up or don´t mess around - which have similar meanings.

Don´t mess up is something you might say to someone taking an exam, or their driving test.

Don´t mess around is something you might to your partner, not to have an affair, or to naughty children annoying their mother.

Hopefully that makes it clear.

Ok , well I thought we had finished with this discussion but you seem to know more about this than us and felt you should have your say.  I am always ready to  hear a point of view and say i´m wrong when I am. So please share the meaning you get from this sentence, as most of us get none. except confusion.

ok.. let me put this into an example.. does this make sense if a mother says to her kid :

"dont mess your room up!"

(give it a thought for a second before you read below)

if the answer is yes, i just used "around" instead of "the room".. because sometimes kids dont mess their rooms up only, but they mess around up

I think it is just a matter of lost in translation , and it can not be explained, as I think you do see what you write as correct .

But no it does not work with around and up together next to each other in the sentence... Don´t spend time thinking about why it does not seem to help ..Fact is it does not work   Anyway we know your English is fine ...
