I wonder why Allah took the trouble to create such a "filthy, disgusting" creature?

We will know that sooner or later.
But there must be a reason for that other than eating them, for us it is forbidden, even they found a worm inside its tissues too!
Ofcourse i respect your love for them tho,as much as you too respect our disgusting of them !

Well Canli, I always respect your views too . I wonder though if anyone ever considers the fact that perhaps animals are NOT here for US?!!!

What is their use other than for eating? I can answer that! No animal is here for our pleasure. They are another living thing which makes up the natural beauty and balance of earth. Do we ask why ants exist? Do we ask why flies exist? They are living things, along with plants, in their own right. It is our determination to control these living things which has brought this planet into the current crisis it faces. We have destroyed the 'natural balance' of all life, by trying to control it.

UMMMM. It's obvious you didn't read anything before making this statement. If you have time READ Leviticus instead of assuming what it says and then you will see why your statement here is so absurd!

Yes, you are right. Indeed I didn't read anything. That's why I asks people for gift-books in order to read. I think, you must be, since you advise me to read, willing to send me books.

Ehi!

Sure I would be happy to send you the Bible. Just PM your address and your book is on the way!

Thank you so much, Capoeira, this is very kind of you. If you don't mind, may I myself choose the book that I will read?

I never really understood the rational for those you don't eat pork, I do understand it's a religous practice though. However, it's interesting when you start researching how other animals are raised and treated. You maybe shocked to learn that not only pigs endure unimaginable suffering in conditions of filth, crowding and confinement. This leaves me to question then why pork is restricted and other animals aren't. Maybe someone could shed some light on this for me.

Actually some of us would eat and many of us would try, at least once, pork if we had been able to find the chance to find pork here. Alcohol is also religiously forbidden, nevertheless some of us drink and many of us have tried it at least once.

For my part, I am really curious about what it would be its taste. It is pity that I have even never seen pork.

Could anyone send me, this time, some pork?

I have points on both sides of this discussion. First, abstaining from eating pork was part of all three middle eastern based religions (Islam, Judism, and Christianity) At some point, Christians relaxed laws on pork much in the same way that abstaining from meat on all Fridays was reversed in the last 30 years. So the precedent here definitely predates Islam, which is the "newest" version of where are all three of these religions came from anyway.

For the people that feel that animals are not here for our consumption, realize that most domesticated animals that we eat today would have been extinct long ago through nature's survival of the fittest. Cows, pigs, sheep, etc would have been elimnated long ago by predatory animals and lack of a safe environment.

Your argument doesn't work with me because I agree with you! We are unnaturally keeping them alive and in large numbers. I would rather they no longer existed than have them live in the horrific conditions of factory farming.

I dont want to take this thread an entirely different direction, but I want to add one last thing. If animals are treated well, before they are consumed, I dont have a problem with their utilizaation. I do feel sorry for the animals that live an "assembly line life."
But animals that live in fields, or are hunted..they dont know death is coming. I think some of the "true vegetarians" think of these animals too much in humanistic terms. I dont think there is a good way to reason to with people on either side of this. You either look at it one way or the other. "No offense to my friends the vegetarians by the way..."
