Last week whilst wrapped in bandages in the beauty salon, unable to move an inch, I overheard a conversation from the next room. I was drifting in and out a light sleep when I heard "Istanbul". I was awake!! I was paralised!

Anyway, these two women were talking and one was saying to the other " I really dont know anything about Istanbul, I guess you can buy leather. I know there is a bazaar but I dont know what they sell. (to the other woman) Do you know anything about Istanbul?" She replied " All I know is they sell women and camels"

Well I was bursting - it took me all my time not to shou t out "hey you ignorant woman"

Sorry libralady,
But i really cann't feel sorry for those people ignorance !

Maybe few years ago i could've felt sorry for them, but now, they don't have any excuse for their ignorance.
The world has become a small village for those who open their eyes and see,
But for those who don't even want to pay the effort of opening their own eyes,i'm sorry,i don't have any sympathy for them !

To be fair Canli, I think you will find it is only a much older generation who have these strange views. Don't forget we are the lucky ones who can travel the world quickly, easily and relatively cheaply. The only time my grandfather has been "abroad" was when he was sent to France during the war! This generation see other countries as exotic and alien and imagine they are exactly like the films they saw in the 1920s and 1930s!! I am sure he would also be guilty of imagining you own camels and live in a tent!!!! OK, there is no excuse "these days" with TV etc, but lets forgive them eh?

People stereotype ME as well. They think we always have to carry umbrellas (because it ALWAYS rains!), they think we either live in London or in a rose covered cottage with a thatched roof. The most funny is...... many people (mainly from a particular country which I wont name because I don't want to upset Teaschip ) think that because you say you are from England, you will know all the the people they have ever met from London on a first name basis !!!! I know the UK is small compared to them, but cmon!!!!!! lol

İgnorance is dangerous aenigma,

As i said,i may find excuses for those people years ago,for the reason you just said, but nowadays its hard to find those excuses.
İf it comes only to ignorance, and our image and how do they see us,then ok,i can forgive their ignorance,
And say by time they will know, and maybe by our help too.

But when ignorance lead to some ignorant decisions, and people dies, its hard to forgive their ignorance.
İf not for ignorance you wouldn't have heard a phrase such as ' ok,and if we draw back our troops, what will they do then ?'

Hey, even people who lived on tents they were able to rule themselves !
No need to kill them to rule them !

Canli, please dont get upset - this was supposed to be a bit of a fun thread and us British have a sense of humour that is unlike most others. We see the funny side of things when other see a dark side!

These ladies, one was of pension age having her nails done and the other was the manicurist, and they are not known for their brains!! Otherwise she would not be doing nails for a living
