I have just had a text message from a friend, would someone please translate soon. I am a little worried as I think it has something to do with hospital?

It said: yesterday i'm hastanedeydim enistem amaliyat oldu yaninda kaldim. The rest was in English.

Thanks in advance. xxx

Hi Linda

It says: yesterday I was at the hospital. My enişte (my sister or aunt's husband) had an operation. I stayed alongside.

Hope this helps you. And that all is well. Take care

I want to send this message as a reply. Can someone please translate ?

you didn't seem very happy when we just talked, is it because of your brother in law? or because of me? I hope his operation went well yesterday.

"Az önce konuştuğumuzda mutlu görünmüyordun; bu enişten yüzünden mi? Yoksa benim yüzümden mi? Umarım onun dünkü ameliyatı iyi geçmiştir."

Hi Linda

Looks like I came back just at the right time.

It says:

My darling, I am just very tired. I love you too very much. I never want you to be sad. The operation went well. Tomorrow we are leaving (the hospital). You are very special to me my darling.

Hope this helps you

Anytime

As for my Turkish... it comes and goes... I should confess I rather neglect my Turkish language books - although I have more than one or two..! But I learnt through the harder way - trial and error. To be honest, I have neglected my languages as a whole lately (I love languages.. French, Spanish, and of course Turkish) so coming here and dipping in from time to time helps me to remember what would otherwise fade away!

I started to learn Turkish as I have quite a few Turkish friends. I went to stay with my friend Nihal once in Nazilli, and nobody could speak English. I found this improved my Turkish no end!

I hope your learning curve is going smoothly! I won't lie - I don't think it's an easy language - but once you get used to a few rules, and never be afraid of making mistakes, you'll pick it up in no time at all. Particularly, as from your messages it sounds as though you've got someone who could be a wonderful teacher for you... Your sevgili!

Thanks again Natlisa,
I like you, am learning through trial and error! not the easiest of way's, but I have looked, and there are no classes near to me I am just about to sit and get stuck into learning some Turkish grammar. I know a lot of single words, but that is no good when you see them in a whole paragraph with suffix's! I'm sure it won't be too long, as I have picked up quite a lot since September already.

Well if you've only been learning since September, that's great! I learnt the way you are - through vocabulary initially, rather than necessarily understanding the suffixes... If you sit down and figure out at least some of the grammar now though, I'm sure it will help no end. As I said before, perhaps I am lucky that my Turkish friends don't speak English - this meant I had to learn! Good luck with your learning! It'll be worth it I'm sure. Also, it is rather fun when you go somewhere where no-one expects you to be able to speak Turkish - believe me, the conversations you end up listening into (accidentally) can be quite something! My local chip shop is actually run by three Turks - and they don't realise I can understand everything they're saying..! enjoy the grammar xx
